England Euro 2024 Squad Odds: Bookies’ favourites revealed
We are now just under one month away from Euro 2024 kicking off, with hosts Germany set to take on Scotland in the opening tie on June 14 at 8pm BST.
England’s European Championship campaign kicks off two days later on June 16 when they face off with Serbia at the Veltins-Arena.
The Three Lions reached the finals of Euro 2020 (played in 2021) before losing out to Italy but are looking to go one step further this summer in what could be Gareth Southgate’s final major tournament at the helm. England can currently be backed as 3/1 favourites to go on and win Euro 2024 this summer.
England Euro 2024 26-Man Squad: Current Favourites
Gareth Southgate is set to announce his provisional squad for the upcoming European Championships on Tuesday, May 21, with the deadline for the final 26-man squad coming on June 7.
As ever, there is much debate surrounding who Gareth Southgate should take to the tournament this year. The former Middlesbrough boss has a habit of picking players he has worked with extensively - even if they have not been in great form - over players who have excelled at club level but have never really been given a chance for England.
Now, ahead of Southgate’s upcoming Euro 2024 squad announcement, we have taken a look at the current bookies’ favourites for each area of the England squad - picking three goalkeepers, nine defenders, seven midfielders and seven forwards.
All odds correct from BetVictor as of May 15, 11 am
Goalkeepers
The goalkeeper betting market does not throw up too many surprises, with current no.1 Jordan Pickford and Southgate’s preferred back-up option, Aaron Ramsdale having very low odds to make the squad. According to the bookies, Newcastle shot-stopper Nick Pope will be England’s third-choice keep in Germany this summer, as he was at the 2022 World Cup.
Missing out on the tournament, meanwhile, is Crystal Palace goalkeeper, Dean Henderson. Henderson has floundered somewhat since his stint with Sheffield United and while he has improved in recent months at Crystal Palace, it looks to be too little, too late.
- Jordan Pickford - 1/20
- Aaron Ramsdale - 1/10
- Nick Pope - 1/2
Defenders
When everyone is fit, Gareth Southgate prefers a back-four of Kyle Walker, Harry Maguire, John Stones and Luke Shaw, with all four of those players set to make the squad this summer according to the betting.
The likes of Kieran Trippier, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ben Chiwell are also expected to make the team, with a potential tournament debut for Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite also on the cards after his stellar 2023/24.
There are a few big names expected to miss this summer’s tournament, meanwhile, with the injured Reece James a 6/4 outside along with Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa, Chelsea’s Levi Colwill and Bayern Munich’s Eric Dier.
- Kyle Walker - 1/8
- John Stones - 1/8
- Trent Alexander-Arnold - 1/8
- Harry Maguire - 1/8
- Kieran Trippier - 1/4
- Ben Chilwell - 1/3
- Jarrad Branthwaite - 1/3
- Luke Shaw - 8/13
- Marc Guehi - 8/11
Midfielders
As is to be expected, the duo of Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham are shoe-ins to make England’s Euro 2024 squad. There also looks set to be a call-up for rising star Kobbie Mainoo, while Jordan Henderson is expected to be on the plane despite his age and declining form.
Missing out, meanwhile, is set-piece specialist James Ward-Prowse, Manchester United’s Mason Mount and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
- Jude Bellingham - 1/20
- Declan Rice - 1/12
- Kobbie Mainoo - 1/6
- Conor Gallagher - 2/7
- James Maddison - 1/3
- Jordan Henderson - 2/5
- Kalvin Phillips - 6/1
Forwards
Despite his struggles at club level this season, the odds suggest Marcus Rashford will once again make the England squad this summer, while Chelsea’s Cole Palmer will be handed his first taste of tournament football at senior level.
However, as is to be expected given the firece completion in England’s attack, a number of players who have impressed across 2023/24 will not make the team. Jarrod Bowen misses out along with Ivan Toney, Dominick Solanke and Jadon Sancho.
- Harry Kane - 1/20
- Bukayo Saka - 1/16
- Phil Foden - 1/16
- Cole Palmer - 1/12
- Ollie Watkins - 1/5
- Marcus Rashford - 2/5
- Anthony Gordon - 1/2
