Birmingham v Reading Match Preview
Birmingham’s convincing pre-season performances have added further credence to the belief that Chris Davies’ side have one of the best squads seen in third-tier history.
Blues boast arguably six top-half Championship calibre players remaining from last season, in a back-four of Ethan Laird, Dion Sanderson, Krystian Bielik and Lee Buchanan, then Paik Seung-ho and Kōji Miyoshi in midfield.
Plus, they’ve made a host of appealing additions from across Europe, in Christoph Klarer, Alex Cochrane and Willum Þór Willumsson.
Furthermore, they’ve added League One stars of last season in classy playmaker Marc Leonard and prolific link-up forward Alfie May.
As such, the B9 outfit look well-placed to begin their bid for dominance with a victory, over a young, exciting Reading side who haven’t, yet, had the takeover they need to ensure they can add the remaining pieces to a squad that’s short on the left side.
It’s hard to find value solely by backing the hotly-fancied hosts, so perhaps the best way to find a chunkier price is to back the home win at Both Teams To Score, with Sam Smith, Harvey Knibbs, Femi Azeez and Lewis Wing all capable of threatening for the visitors.
