Kolkata Knight Riders v Mumbai Indians Betting Tips
Kolkata are sat nicely on top of the table having had a fantastic campaign with eight wins from 11, and they are all set to go through as one of the top two teams who get a second chance if needed in the finals.
Remember, first plays second at the start of the play-offs for the right to advance directly through to the final. The loser gets another bite at the cherry.
Despite Mumbai winning their last match against Hyderabad on Monday, they have massively underperformed and it would be a surprise if they knocked KKR off their perch.
With that in mind, I would be taking SportingIndex’s 10/11 on the league leaders to win this one on home turf.
Phil can leave Mumbai feeling Salty
Kolkata’s Phil Salt is having an excellent maiden IPL. He has scored 429 runs at the top of the order added to 11 catches behind the stumps.
Salt is one of a host of players who will be missing the latter stages of this competition because of T20 World Cup preparations. But, for now, he can help his team go into the finals on a high.
I like the look of bet365′s 5/6 on over 27.5 points on the player performance. Remember, that’s a point a run, 10 per catch and 25 per stumping, and wicketkeeper-batter Salt has cleared that marker in five of his last seven matches.
It surprises me somewhat that betway are offering 1/1 for Kolkata to post a higher opening partnership than Mumbai in this match.
Both Salt and Sunil Narine are in excellent form, while Ishan Kishan and, in particular, Rohit Sharma aren’t for Mumbai. I’d certainly be taking that price.
I also like the bet365′s 7/4 on KKR spinner Varun Chakravarthy to take over 1.5 wickets. He is their leading wicket-taker in the tournament with 16 and has taken eight in the last three matches.
Going back to that opening partnership, betway have KKR to win and to score the highest opening partnership at an enticing 9/4.
Blue Sky thinking
I would absolutely be taking two prices on success for Mumbai’s India star Suryakumar Yadav.
The first is the boosted 3/1 from Ladbrokes on him to score a fifty in the match.
The second is PaddyPower’s 4/1 on him to be his team’s top run-scorer against KKR.
Given the recent bad form of their top order stars such as Sharma and Kishan, I wouldn’t have been surprised to see Sky - as they call him - as the favourite for the latter market.
The fact he’s not owes much to him batting at four and the reputations rather than the form of others who bat higher than him.
I certainly expected him to be a shorter price than he is.
He has scored 56 and 102 not out in his last two matches. So that’s a price well worth dabbling with.
