The odds on Arsenal to win the Premier League for the first time in 20 years have lengthened following Sunday afternoon’s defeat to Aston Villa.
Arsenal have spent a decent chunk of 2023/24 at the Premier League summit but a 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa means they have slipped two points behind Manchester City, with the odds on them winning the title this year now 4/1.
Mikel Arteta speaks out on Premier League title race
Heading into the Villa match, Arsenal were on a superb run of form, going unbeaten in all of their previous league games across 2024 while conceding just four goals in the process.
However, a wasteful Gunners were outclassed by their former manager Unai Emery, handing Manchester City the advantage in the final month of the campaign.
Speaking in his pre-Villa press conference, Mikel Arteta was asked if Arsenal can take the advantage back from Pep Guardiola’s men, to which he responded:
“Yeah that’s a possibility,” he said. “That’s the reality now. It’s been the same for a few months. We knew this moment could come and now it’s about reacting and keeping believing and doing what we can do.”
Arsenal’s first chance to close the gap on Manchester City comes away to Wolves on April 20, with the north Londoners 4/11 favourites to win that tie.
