Graham Potter was dismissed by the Blues after a troubled time in charge at Stamford Bridge, winning just 12 games out of 31 and averaging just 1.27 points per game in the league despite leading them to a quarter-final Champions League spot.

It sparked more criticism of Todd Boehly, who has spent huge amounts of money only to see his side go backwards this season and depart with Thomas Tuchel as well as Potter, with Chelsea now in the bottom half of the table after Saturday’s defeat to Aston Villa.

Nagelsmann had been strongly linked to Tottenham, who themselves are chasing a new boss after sacking Antonio Conte during the international break, but Daniel Levy could be beaten to his man after Chelsea entered the race for the former Bayern manager, who was abruptly dismissed and replaced by Tuchel.

In a statement across the club’s website and social media platforms, Chelsea announced that:

“Graham Potter has departed the club. Graham has agreed to collaborate with the Club to facilitate a smooth transition. In his time with the club, Graham has taken us to the quarter final of the Champions League, where we will face Real Madrid. Chelsea would like to thank Graham for all his efforts and contribution and wish him well for the future.”

Bruno Salter will step in for Potter but it remains to be seen how quickly they will be act, with sources suggesting Nagelsmann is keen on taking a break before taking his next job.
