Liverpool matched unwanted record in Europa League tie

Following their defeat to Atalanta, it has been revealed, along with several other stats, that Liverpool matched an unwanted record vs the Serie A side:

  • Liverpool have suffered their first defeat at Anfield since losing 5-2 to Real Madrid in the Champions League in February 2023, ending their 33-game unbeaten run - the fifth-longest in their history.
  • Atalanta are just the second side to win on successive visits to Liverpool in major European competition after Barcelona in March 2007, and the first side to do so in their first two such trips.
  • This is the joint-heaviest defeat Liverpool have had at home in major European competition alongside a 3-0 defeat in October 2014 and 5-2 defeat in February 2023, both against Real Madrid.
  • Atalanta’s 2.58xG is the highest by a visiting side at Anfield against Liverpool in all competitions since Manchester City in the Premier League in February 2021 (3.47).
