Luton Town Relegation Odds: Now 1/20 after Everton draw

The race to avoid relegation from the Premier League in 2023/24 took another turn over the weekend.

With Sheffield United already relegated, the battle to avoid the remaining two places comes between Luton Town, Burnley and Nottingham Forest.

Luton had a major game versus 15th-place Everton over the weekend and really needed a win. However, Everton went 1-0 up after 24 minutes and while the Hatters did pull a goal back seven minutes later, they were unable to find a second and were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw.

Premier League Relegation: Current Standings

After picking up a 3-1 win over Sheffield United on Saturday, Nottingham Forest are now three points above the relegation zone with two games left to play. They are three clear of Luton Town and five points above 19th-place Burnley. As a result, the Midlands outfit are clear favourites to stay up this term, with Luton and Burnley facing a real battle for survival in their final two fixtures.

Who will be relegated from the Premier League?

Luton Town

At the start of the 2023/24 Premier League campaign, very few people gave the newly-promoted Luton any real chance of avoiding relegation this term, with some even expecting them to match Derby County for the lowest points total in a Premier League campaign (11).

Luton have surpassed those low expectations, sitting on 26 points from 36 games, but their recent form is a concern heading into their final set of fixtures. Luton have lost three and drawn one of their last four league outings, with that stalemate versus Everton over the weekend potentially set to prove detrimental to their survival hopes.

Luton are the most likely team to catch 17th-place Nottingham Forest, but their 10-worse goal difference means they would have to win at least one game and draw the other and then hope Forest lose their final two matches.

Burnley

Vincent Kompany’s Burnley appeared to be making a late push for Premier League survival after a 4-1 win over Sheffield United was sandwiched between draws with Brighton and Manchester United.

However, the Clarets reverted to type on May 4, being smashed 4-1 by Newcastle United at Turf Moor.

That result leaves Burnley five points from safety with two games - one of which is against Tottenham - left to play. Burnley’s only hope of survival is for them to win their last two matches and hope both Luton and Forest lose their last two.
