Manchester City FA Cup Odds: Now 1/4 after Chelsea Win

Manchester City faced off with Chelsea at Wembley on Saturday afternoon, looking to book their place in the 2024 FA Cup final.

When all was said and done, a tired Manchester City secured a 1-0 victory to clinch their place in the competition’s showpiece next month against bitter rivals, Manchester United. Ahead of the final, the Sky Blues are 1/4 favourites to lift the trophy.

Manchester City’s road to the final

Manchester City endured a mixed set of fixtures on their road to the 2023/24 FA Cup final.

City saw off Championship outfit Huddersfield Town in the 3rd round by five goals to nil. This was followed by a 1-0 win over Tottenham, a 6-2 hammering of Luton, a 2-0 victory versus Newcastle and, of course, the 1-0 win over Chelsea.

Manchester City march on

Manchester City played 120 minutes of Champions League quarter-final action vs Real Madrid just three days before they were forced to take on Chelsea in the capital. As a result, their players were tired and far from their best when they went head-to-head with Mauricio Pochettino and co.

The hectic schedule of the current FA Cup holders is something Pep Guardiola spoke passionately about in his post-match presser:

“I have to repeat everything again? Listen, I’m incredibly happy to play the semi-finals of the FA Cup. I love to be in the quarter-finals of the Champions League,” he said. “I love to be here but I don’t understand.

“It’s for the health of the players, for the spectacle. I don’t understand how we survived today. People cannot imagine what a punch in the face to be out of the Champions League in the way we are out. Why not give us one more day for the health of the players to arrive on Sunday?

“Coventry, Chelsea and United don’t play in the Champions League, they don’t play in the Europa League. For broadcasters? Ok. Don’t ask me after to do extra things because we won’t do it.”

Despite his anger, Man City have reached the FA Cup final in consecutive years for a third time. The Manchester outfit are also now unbeaten in their last 29 matches in all competitions, the longest-ever such run in the club’s history (W23 D6).

Should that run continue until the end of the 2023/24 campaign, Man City, who are one point behind 1st-place Arsenal in the Premier League with a game in hand, will secure another league title and, of course, the FA Cup.
