Portugal v France Betting Tips, Odds & Match Preview - Euro 2024
- Antoine Griezmann to score the first goal- 15/2 with BetVictor
- France to win by one goal - 11/4 with Paddy Power
Portugal and France face off on Friday evening in Hamburg, and it could be another titanic tussle, following the Spain vs Germany clash a few hours earlier.
France have been far from their imperious best this Euros, and against Belgium, they needed a bit of luck to creep over the line.
An own goal from Jan Vertonghen means Les Bleus are yet to score a goal from open play at the Euros (two own goals and a penalty), but as far as Didier Deschamps is concerned, he is still on course to make history and won’t care one jot.
Portugal, meanwhile, were held gamely by Slovenia before they prevailed on penalties, thanks largely to the heroics of Diogo Costa, who became the first goalkeeper to keep out three spot kicks in a European Championship in a penalty shoot-out.
There were also a few tears from Cristiano Ronaldo, who missed a penalty in extra-time before he let out a primal scream after redeeming himself in the shoot-out.
This has the ingredients to be a classic, but how will things unfold? As is customary, I have divulged a couple of Portugal v France betting tips to accompany my match preview.
We’ve looked at some of the best football betting offers, odds and markets from our range of football betting sites to provide you with Portugal v France betting tips.

Portugal v France Match Preview
Fortune to continue to favour Les Bleus
So far, we are still waiting for the real France to stand up, but as they say, the hallmark of champions is the ability to win ugly.
Against Belgium, it was a bit of a war of attrition, and their attacking struggles were once again laid bare.
They managed more than double (44) the number of Belgium’s entries into the final third (19), and they comfortably outshot the Red Devils but only managed one attempt on target.
Kylian Mbappe looked lively, trying to make things happen, rolling in from the left, but for the most part, France were short on ideas.
Portugal, on the other hand, were frustrated, and Ronaldo is still waiting for the net to bulge.
He had eight efforts on target against Slovenia, and he has mustered 20 attempts at Euro 2024, but he is still waiting to get off the mark.
France’s credentials are unquestioned, and like Portugal, they will be taking part in a last eight fixture for the sixth game.
This could well be a very tight game, and it will ultimately be a moment of magic or defensive lapse that decides it. For my first pick, I’m leaning towards France to win by one goal, and Paddy Power has you covered with a shortish price of 11/4.
Antoine Griezmann up and running
Antoine Griezmann has been a curious case for France at Euro 2024, and he will be desperate to open his account.
11 attempts on goal have brought no joy, and a tame effort against Belgium was all he had to show in the Round of 16.
Anyway, let’s not forget that Griezmann is fourth on the list of France’s all-time top scorers list with 44 goals, and he has picked up 133 international caps which suggests he has been doing something right.
Naturally, this game will be billed as Mbappe vs Ronaldo, but Griezmann would love to influence things.
To generate more value, I have gone with Griezmann to break the deadlock, and he’s currently trading at 15/2 with BetVictor which shouldn’t be scoffed at.
