The dream lives on at Caja Magica with Rafa Nadal now 10/1 with the bookmakers to win a sixth Madrid Open in what’s likely to be his final appearance in the Spanish capital.
Nadal booked his place in the last 16 with a hard-fought victory over Argentina’s Pedro Cachin in front of a vocal home crowd.
Two days after defeating the 10th seed, Alex de Minaur, the 37-year-old Spaniard came out on top in a classic, winning 6-1 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 after three hours and six minutes on court.
This sets up a clash with 30th seed Jiri Lehecka of the Czech Republic on Tuesday for a place in the quarter-finals.
And the bookmakers are struggling to split the duo - offering odds of 10/11 on each player to prevail.
Victory on Monday also saw Nadal’s odds for next month’s French Open trimmed from 7/1 to 6/1 as he aims to sign off at Roland-Garros with a staggering 15th title.
ATP Madrid Odds
- Carlos Alcaraz - 13/8
- Jannik Sinner - 9/4
- Alexander Zverev - 7/1
- Casper Rudd - 9/1
- Rafael Nadal - 10/1
