Rangers Title Odds: Now 7/2 after Kilmarnock win

The Scottish Premier League title race looks increasingly likely to go down to the final set of fixtures following on from the latest gameweek.

Rangers faced off with Kilmarnock on Sunday and came away with a 4-1 win to stay three points adrift of Celtic.

The two teams have been rather well-matched this term heading into what is a huge Old Firm derby on May 11. Rangers are 23/10 to pick up a win at Celtic Park, while the home side can be backed at 23/20.

Scottish Premier League Title Race: Current Standings

Rangers have by no means been at their best this season, with their six losses so far in 2023/24 already two more than they suffered in the whole of 2022/23.

The Gers missed out on the league title by seven points last term despite their largely excellent season and though they have already dropped more points in the current campaign, they are still very much in the title race as we enter the final month of the Scottish Premier League season.

SPL Table: Title Race Standings

  • 1st - Celtic Pld 35 - Pts 84 (+58 GD)
  • 2nd - Rangers Pld 35 - Pts 81 (+53 GD)

Rangers Scottish Premier League Title Odds

After a blip in form last month that saw them draw two and lose one (versus Ross County), Rangers are once again back to their best during the business end of the 2023/24 campaign.

The Scottish powerhouse went 1-0 down to Kilmarnock on May 5 but scored an equaliser deep into first-half injury time before going on to net three in the second half to earn what proved to be a comfortable win. That result leaves Rangers 2nd in the table and only three points behind league leaders, Celtic.

However, Celtic have an eight-better goal difference with three games to play, meaning the final Old Firm derby of the season, which takes place this weekend, will likely decide the title. Rangers have to pick up the win to stand any chance of securing the title and though not a must, they could do with beating Celtic by a comfortable scoreline to boost their goal difference and weaken their opponents’.

Celtic Scottish Premier League Title Odds

While not yet guaranteed, Celtic look set to make it 10 Scottish Premier League titles in 11 years. The Hoops were in action versus 3rd-place Hearts over the weekend and, as was to be expected, cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win to maintain their place at the SPL summit.

That result means Celtic will all but be confirmed as champions if they are able to beat Rangers on May 11. A win in the derby would put them six points clear with two fixtures to play and with a much better goal difference.

And given Rangers have won just one of the previous 10 meetings between these two sides, it is safe to assume Celtic will be named champions in the next week or so.
