Rotherham v Huddersfield Match Preview
Rotherham could feel hard done by in last week’s 2-0 loss at Wycombe.
The Millers took 19 shots to 11, eight shots on target to six, and eight shots to five from inside the penalty area, as Hakeem Odoffin had close-range effort bravely blocked, before Sam Nombe had a header ruled out for offside from the same move, and Odoffin also had a header caught late on.
The xG tells the same story, that Steve Evans’ side have the fifth-highest in the league at 5.54, yet they’re the only team yet to find the net – and surely that will change soon.
While there is no reason to assume that Rotherham are doomed to an underwhelming campaign, exactly, Evans has responded to defeats badly in public, and therefore probably even worse behind closed doors – quite what that will do to morale is up for debate.
So, backing a Huddersfield side who have won each of their first three league games to get a result at so close to even money looks a value play, via the draw no bet option, whereby the stake will be returned if the game finishes all square.
The Terriers have a striker in Callum Marshall who has two goals for the season already, and has at 19 already played four times for Northern Ireland.
Although the intelligent, back-post poacher only featured three times for West Brom, on loan from West Ham in the second half of last season, it’s very rare for a teenager to get a first-time loan to a promotion-chasing Championship club.
So, the fact Marshall attracted that sort of offer suggests he has the level of talent to follow up on his bright, early season form, especially when supplied by one of League One’s top wing-backs in Lasse Sørensen.
