- West Indies v New Zealand
- ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Group C
- Thursday June 13, 2024, 1.30am UK
- Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Tarouba
New Zealand made a calamitous start to their campaign, bowled out for just 75 in defeat to Afghanistan on Saturday. But, despite this, they will provide West Indies with a much sterner test than they faced so far. For example, their last fixture saw them bowl Uganda out for 39 on Sunday.
Expect the unexpected has been the theme of this World Cup so far - the USA’s progress so far has told us that - and that leads me to a New Zealand win here.
In T20 cricket, any side can get bowled out for 75 in a one-off game. And while I do think the West Indies will go deep in this tournament, it wouldn’t surprise me to see them come unstuck in this one. The Kiwis are 7/5 with BetMGM to win this one.
New Zealand have won six out of the last seven completed T20 meetings between these two sides, dating back to 2017. That’s not including rain-offs, of which there have been a few.

West Indies v New Zealand T20 World Cup Betting Tips
Hooray Henry
Ladbrokes are offering 13/8 on fast bowler Matt Henry to strike twice for New Zealand, which he has done in each of his last three T20 internationals dating back to January, obviously including the Afghanistan game the other day.
I really like him as a bowler and think the comment on the tweet below from a few months back sums him up perfectly.
I’ve often sided with Trent Boult when it comes to NZ bowlers, but I just think Henry offers a touch more value and is worth considering when it comes to their top bowler in the match as well.
He’s on offer to achieve that at 18/5 with betfred.
Long shot has appeal
There are two prices which have caught my eye to finish with.
Even winning one of these would make watching through the night all the more enjoyable!
The first is with bet365 via their boosted bet builders. They are offering 8/1 for a New Zealand win and batters Fin Allen and Daryl Mitchell to score 20 plus runs apiece.
The other, I can’t believe West Indies captain Rovman Powell is available at 9/1, with betfred, to be their top batter in this fixture. That strikes me as significantly over-priced.
He possesses both quality and power and has been in the runs lately. Nothing to write home about, but he bludgeoned 52 off 25 balls in a warm-up game against Australia last week.
A few early wickets and it would give him plenty of time from number four to secure this bet for us.
