US Open Women’s Final Betting Tips Preview
This is the first time Jessica Pegula has gone beyond the quarter-finals at a Grand Slam, and what a place and what a time to do it.
It’s quite ironic that to coincide with the opening weekend of the NFL, the daughter of the Buffalo Bills’ owners has made it through to her first final on home turf.
Pegula was born in Buffalo, part of New York State. She is number six in the world and has seen off top ranked Iga Swiatek along the way, beating her 2-0 in the quarter-finals. The million dollar question is, however, has she got enough to see off title favourite Aryna Sabalenka on Saturday evening?
The manner of her semi-final win over Karolina Muchova, coming from a set down and a break down to win 2-1, means she can’t be discounted.
And even though I’ve always thought that Pegula is a better player than previous performances suggest, I’m not so sure I expect her to take down Sabalenka, who will bounce back from defeat at the same stage last year to Coco Gauff.
I do see it being close though, and I think I would be taking Sabalenka to win 2-1 correct score at 29/10 with William Hill.
Pegula has won 15 of her last 16 matches, including claiming a hard court title in Toronto last month. Her only defeat was to Sabalenka in the final at Cincinnati. Sabalenka has won her last 11 matches, including that Cincy title. You can see why this could be close.
Three but not easy for Sabalenka
I feel like a third Grand Slam title is in the offing for Aryna Sabalenka, who should quieten the home crowd, as she did in beating another American Emma Navarro 6-3, 7-6 in the semi-finals.
But I can see confident Pegula causing her issues.
Firstly, I quite like Betfair’s Evens on the first set to be won - by either player - by a score of either 6/4, 7/5 or 7/6.
I also like bet365′s 6/4 on Sabalenka to win and there to be over 20.5 games in the match. That’s exactly what happened at the Cincinnati final between the two recently. The Belarusian won it 6-3, 7-5.
Virgin Bet’s 13/8 on there to be over 2.5 sets is a price I would be thinking seriously about.
And finally, Betano’s boosted 8/1 on Sabalenka to win from behind is something I would consider. She did that in the third round against Ekaterina Alexandrova.
