Toni Kroos Ballon d’Or Odds: 11/1 after Champions League final
A key clash for potentially deciding who will win the 2024 Ballon d’Or took place on Saturday, June 1.
Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid faced off at Wembley in the 2023/24 Champions League final.
Real Madrid were looking to pick up their 15th Champions League title, while Dortmund were eyeing Champions League no.2 after their last win in 1996/97. In the end, Madrid came out on top via a 2-0 scoreline to maintain their status as the kings of Europe.
2024 Ballon d’Or odds
Despite the award being an individual prize, club performance across the season does play a major role - see Luka Modric’s win in 2018. As a result, whoever wins the Champions League usually has at least one player with a real chance of securing the Ballon d’Or.
Now, following Los Blancos’ triumph in London, the Ballon d’Or betting market is heavily favouring players from Madrid. The likes of Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe - who have both enjoyed superb individual seasons - also remain among the favourites to win the award.
- Vinicius Junior - 4/9
- Jude Bellingham - 11/4
- Kylian Mbappe - 9/1
- Toni Kroos - 11/1
- Harry Kane - 20/1
- Phil Foden - 28/1
- Rodri - 33/1
- Lionel Messi - 33/1
- Erling Haaland - 40/1

2024 Ballon d’Or Winner: The Contenders
Vinicius Juniror
Despite being only 23 years of age, Vinicius Junior has cemented himself as one of the best wingers in Europe over the last several years. In 2023/24, he found the net on 24 occasions and provided 11 assists across 39 games for Real Madrid.
This is an impressive record but it is still significantly lower than both Kylian Mbappe and Harry Kane. The latter has 45 goals and 12 assists for Bayern Munich, while Mbappe has 44 goals and 10 assists in 47 games for PSG.
However, after Real Madrid won the Champions League and the South American scored in the final, he has shot up to the favourite spot in the betting.
Jude Bellingham
Next up in the betting is another Real Madrid star in Jude Bellingham. The Englishman scored 23 and assisted 13 in 42 games across all competitions this past season for Los Blancos.
Real Madrid have also completed the league and Champions League double, meaning despite some other players perhaps having better individual seasons, Bellingham stands a real chance of picking up the Ballon d’Or.
Kylian Mbappe
Mbappe scored a staggering 44 goals and provided 10 assists in 48 games for PSG across the 2023/24 campaign. However, his showings in the latter stages of the Champions League have hindered the Frenchman in the betting. But with France among the favourites to win the Euros this summer, Mbappe can still stake a claim for the award with a big showing in Germany.
Toni Kroos
Kroos has an outside chance of winning the 2024 Ballon d’Or following Real Madrid’s triumph in the Champions League.
The German confirmed his Real Madrid exit after the final at Wembley and while few will argue he is currently the best player in the world, there is a precedent set by Luka Modric for a Madrid player to win the Ballon d’Or after securing the Champions League and having a good performance at international level. As a result, if Germany can go far at Euro 2024, Kroos may end up picking up the award.
