Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester City Betting Tips and Free Bets
Will Manchester City move to within just one win of a fourth consecutive Premier League title, or can Tottenham Hotspur inadvertently do their fierce local rivals a huge favour?
Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester City match preview
Having claimed victory in London on Saturday, another just 12.5 miles northwest across the capital will leave Manchester City on the cusp of yet another Premier League title.
At the weekend, the Sky Blues swatted Fulham aside 4-0 at Craven Cottage.
Joško Gvardiol continuing his scoring spree by bagging a first brace of his career, Phil Foden firing home from the edge of the area in-between, before Julián Álvarez completed the rout with a stoppage time spot-kick.
That’s now seven successive victories for Pep Guardiola’s side, scoring 28 goals in these matches, while the Citizens are unbeaten in 21 Premier League matches overall, dating all the way back to 6 December.
This is their, much discussed, game-in-hand over Arsenal, with victory for Man City here ensuring they go into the final day top of the table, thereby just a home win over West Ham away from a fourth successive title, thereby becoming the first-ever top division English club to ever achieve this feat.
So, can Tottenham Hotspur be the team to throw a spanner in the works, thereby, potentially, gift-wrapping the Premier League title to their bitter rivals from down the road?
At the weekend, Spurs got back to winning ways by beating Burnley 2-1, coming from behind to do so, with goals from Pedro Porro and Micky van de Ven condemning the Clarets to relegation.
Before that, Ange Postecoglou’s side had actually lost four on the spin, defeated by Newcastle, Arsenal, Chelsea and then Liverpool, the first time Tottenham had lost four consecutive league games for two decades.
This has massively dented Spurs’ Champions League aspirations, failing to capitalise on Aston Villa’s drop off in form, currently four points below Villa with two games to play.
Given that the Villans’ remaining two fixtures are against Liverpool and Crystal Palace, it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that they’ll only add one point or fewer to their tally and, if that is the case, Tottenham can leapfrog them, but only by winning both here and then at already relegated Sheffield United on Sunday.
Fair to say, one of those is far more likely than the other.
So, given that Spurs could still gatecrash the top four on the final day, they have to go all out to win this one, even if the vast majority of their supporters would rather they did not, because even a draw could hand Arsenal the title on a silver platter, an unthinkable eventuality if you’re of a Tottenham persuasion.
Played in surreal circumstances, in front of a conflicted Tottenham Hotspur Stadium crowd, will Manchester City pick up the three points they need?
Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester City Tips
Infamously, Manchester City had a Tottenham Hotspur Stadium curse, losing each of their first five visits to the new stadium, all without scoring, including missing two spot-kicks.
However, this hoodoo came to an end back in January, with Nathan Aké's last-gasp header seeing the Sky Blues claim victory in a fourth round FA Cup tie.
In the Premier League, it is true that Man City have won only two of their last nine encounters with Spurs, the pair playing out a thrilling 3-3 draw in December, but we can’t see beyond an away win from this one.
We are also forecasting a high-scoring clash, not least the last 25 Premier League encounters between the pair have produced 91 goals, an average of 3.64 per 90, with 14 of these fixtures witnessing 4+ goals.
Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola’s side have scored four or more in six of their last seven league outings, netting 3+ on 31 seperate occasions this season, including that aforementioned reverse fixture.
At the other end, the Citizens’ shutout on Saturday was only their fourth clean sheet in ten fixtures since the start of April.
As for Ange Postecoglou’s team, they’ve only failed to score in three of 36 league matches this season, all of which have come away from home, while both teams have scored in 75% of Spurs’ league outings.
Predicated by the fact we’re expecting plenty of goals, we’re also forecasting that Manchester City’s two main men will come to the fore.
Erling Braut Håland bagged four against Wolves ten days ago, taking his tally to 36 goals for the campaign, almost guaranteed to capture back-to-back Premier League golden boots, just the sixth player to achieve this, after Thierry Henry, Harry Kane, Mohamed Salah, Michael Owen and Robin van Persie.
In his career, Håland has taken to the field at 23 different Premier League venues, scoring at 20 of them, the sole exceptions the Amex, the Brentford Community Stadium, and of course the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but we’re expecting him to at least cross the latter off the list.
Meanwhile, Phil Foden’s strike at the weekend was his 25 goal of the season, bagging six in his last four Premier League outings.
Foden was on target when Spurs visited the Etihad in December, his second goal in this fixture, coming four and a half years after his first, but we’re backing him to add to his tally in the capital.
