Tottenham Top Four Odds: Now 12/1 after Chelsea loss
There was just one midweek Premier League game this week as Tottenham travelled to Chelsea for a London derby on Thursday evening.
Despite being the away side, a Champions League-chasing Spurs were favourites heading into the meeting at Stamford Bridge.
But when all was said and done, goals from Trevoh Chalobah and Nicolas Jackson saw the Blues secure a 2-0 win, dealing a major blow to Tottenham’s hopes of a top-four finish this term.
Premier League Top Four Race: Current Odds
Last season’s top four had a couple of surprise inclusions and omissions, with Manchester United and Newcastle United finishing ahead of teams such as Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham.
This campaign once again sees Manchester City and Arsenal securing a Champions League place, while Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool will be back in Europe’s premier competition after a brief absence this term. The final top-four place will now go to one of Aston Villa or Tottenham, with Unai Emery’s men the current favourite to secure it:
- Aston Villa - 1/33
- Tottenham - 12/1
Who will finish in the final Champions League place?
Tottenham (60 points)
Ange Postecoglou got off to a great start as Tottenham manager, going unbeaten in his first 10 Premier League games, with their even suggestions the north Londoners could mount some sort of title push.
Those dreams were quickly dashed midway through the campaign following an injury crisis at the club, which greatly hampered their form. Despite this, a Tottenham side who lost their greatest-ever player last summer in Harry Kane, have been in and around the top four for much of 2023/24.
However, Tottenham’s loss to Chelsea followed on from back-to-back defeats at the hands of Arsenal and Newcastle. In turn. Spurs now sit seven points off 4th with four games to play. Tottenham still have a game in hand on Aston Villa, but they face an uphill battle to secure a Champions League spot heading into their final set of games.
Tottenham’s remaining Premier League fixtures
- Liverpool (A) May 5
- Burnley (H) May 11
- Manchester City (H) May 14
- Sheffield United (A) May 19
Aston Villa (67 points)
As for Aston Villa, it would take a serious collapse for them not to secure a top-four finish at this stage of the season.
Unai Emery’s side have been impeccable at home and while they have not been at their best of late - two wins, two draws and one loss in five - they have still been in better form than Tottenham.
As a result, Villa only need to win two of their last three fixtures to guarantee Champions League football in 2024/25, though given Spurs’ remaining opponents this season, one victory will likely be enough.
Aston Villa’s remaining Premier League fixtures
- Brighton (A) May 5
- Liverpool (H) May 13
- Crystal Palace (A) May 19
