Thursday evening will be one of the best nights of the county summer.
There’s no doubt that these are two great rivalries, but I can’t deny that for me one stands out above the other. As a northern lad, I may be biased, but Yorkshire v Lancashire for me is the greatest domestic rivalry in world cricket.
I accept that India v Pakistan and England v Australia have more notoriety, but if you offered me a choice of tickets for all three games I would choose the Roses every single day of the week and twice on a Sunday. It’s a sensational fixture which always seems to deliver drama.
But they are still a better team than their results suggest, and they should bounce back against Worcestershire, another team who have won this title in the past (2018) but have made a mixed start this term with two wins from five.
I also expect Birmingham to hit back against Yorkshire. Winners of the last two North Group tables, they won their first two and lost their last two. Yorkshire have started well with three wins from four, but I can see them coming unstuck at Edgbaston.
I would be taking a win double on Notts and Birmingham, available at 2/1 with bet365.
I’m lucky enough to have been to a Middlesex v Surrey Blast fixture, and it’s a wonderful occasion too. But it just doesn’t seem to have quite the passion the Roses does.
There’s no doubt that Yorkshire v Lancashire is set up to be a better contest this week. By that, I mean the sides are closer matched. Middlesex v Surrey is a struggling team v one flying high.
I fully expect Surrey to win at Lord’s, but they lack value at 1/3. I also think North Group leaders Lancashire will continue their fine start with victory at Headingley in front of the Sky Sports cameras.
They have won five of seven games so far to Yorkshire’s won three, lost three.
Instead of going on the 10/11 single, let’s have a crack at the Surrey-Lancs win double at 1.54/1 with bet365.

T20 Vitality Blast Betting Tips
Yorkshire Vikings v Lancashire Lightning, Headingley, 7.05pm
Lancashire captain Keaton Jennings has a wonderful career record across all formats against Yorkshire, including his Durham days. He has scored six fifties and five hundreds in 31 matches, including a couple of double centuries.
In his last two T20 Roses matches, he’s scored 42 and 75.
He’s batting at three for Lightning in this season’s Blast and has posted scores of 64 and 26 in his last three matches. I’d be very interested in bet365′s 11/4 on him to score a fifty in this fixture.
I’m not having it that Adam Lyth is 4/1 to be Yorkshire’s top-scorer in the match with PaddyPower in this T20 Blast cricket tips preview.
Yorkshire may have the likes of current internationals Ferreira, Malan, Masood and Root alongside the ex-England opener. But Lyth is his county’s leading all-time T20 run-scorer with 4,097 to his name.
No other white rose batter has gone beyond 2,300. Lyth has posted scores of 55 not out and 84 in this season’s Blast. To me, fours is over-priced.
Middlesex v Surrey, Lord’s, 7pm
Surrey’s Australian overseas quick Spencer Johnson is 11/10 with bet365 to take over 1.5 wickets in the match. He has taken eight so far in six matches, including two two-wicket hauls.
He takes the new ball and has bowled his four overs quite early, including last time out against Sussex straight through up top.
I would also expect an upturn in fortunes soon for Surrey’s opening batter Dan Lawrence, who has had a bit of a nightmare in this competition so far, with sequence of scores - 3, 13, 3, 6, 4 and 1. That’s closer to Morse Code than he would like!
Anyway, he’s much, much better than that, and a score is due. I would be interested in taking him on at 4/1 to be Surrey’s top run-scorer in the match at 4/1 with PaddyPower.
