Weekend Boxing Betting Tips
Ellie Scotney to beat Mea Motu Decision/Technical Decision
Ellie Scotney’s super-bantamweight world titles are on the line this weekend against her mandatory challenger, Mea Motu.
Motu arrives from New Zealand where she has contested a majority of her 20-0 career, holding the record for the most NZ titles in women’s boxing history.
So Scotney won’t be expecting to walk over the experienced 35-year-old in Nottingham, but will be confident in soaking up her attacks considering her 40% career KO rate.
It’s hard to call Motu a “puncher” but she’s probably more of one than the technician, Scotney.
The Catford world champion has yet to stop any of her nine opponents, but is already amassing an impressive CV with world title wins over Cherneka Johnson, Laura Griffa and Segolene Lefebvre.
Team Scotney have had months to prepare for Motu – this fight was originally slated for last October – and after spending 18 months as world champion she’s not expected to drop the ball here.
Dalton Smith vs Walid Ouizza – Under 6.5 Rounds
The European super lightweight title is on the line Saturday night in Nottingham as Dalton Smith continues to tick off his trinkets in the 140-pound division.
The unbeaten “Thunder” is 16-0 now since turning over in 2019, active, and growing an impressive resume of victories, most recently a fifth-round KO of the experience Jose Zepeda.
Walid Ouizza is the next test at European level – a 33-year-old Frenchman who has strung together 11 wins since dropping the second of his two career losses in 2018.
Smith is a puncher in the division and can be hard to handle when he is firing on all cylinders.
There is an argument that this is a bit of a tick-box exercise for the Briton as he continues to build his world ranking with the WBC, and a quick KO of the away fighter is the pick.
Diego Pacheco to beat Steven Nelson by KO, TKO or DQ
Super-middleweight contender Diego Pacheco is being dubbed as the next big thing in the 168-pound division.
The 23-year-old has raced to 22-0 (18KO) after a stellar amateur career, and is manoeuvring himself into a position to take on one of the big guns in the super-middleweight division.
His opponent this weekend, Steven Nelson, is unbeaten himself, but due to take part in his first 12-rounder, there are low expectations of the 36-year-old underdog.
Nelson can punch – his 16 KOs prove this – but he hasn’t been in with anyone close to the potential of Pacheco, with plenty more expected from the youngster.
Pacheco is in touching distance of a future fight with Canelo Alvarez, so don’t expect him to drop the ball here as he stops a game Nelson inside the distance.
