Round one of the World Matchplay concludes on Monday night with 16 of the PDC’s best moving into midweek duels inside the Winter Gardens.
All eyes will be on the big one between the Masters, Michael van Gerwen, and the Apprentice, Luke Littler, as they clash in a race to ten in the third match on the oche this Monday night.
Let’s take a look at three of the best tips for Monday night’s action:
World Matchplay Darts Betting Tips
Michael Smith vs Gary Anderson – Over 13.5 180s
These two players know each others games inside out, but after a couple of years of Michael Smith dominance on the PDC Tour, these two players may be harder to split than first thought.
Anderson is enjoying the best seasonal average across the whole PDC at the moment, and despite not going deep in the major tournaments is playing some good darts when the pressure is off.
Anderson won this title back in 2018 but has suffered early defeats in four of his last five appearances in Blackpool; Smith’s best run is a runner-up finish in 2019.
We’re not brave enough to pick a winner here, with the value lying in the match going long and a tsunami of 180s landing.
Luke Littler to beat Michael van Gerwen
Luke Littler has taken like a duck(ling) to water on the PDC Tour already this season.
After his incredible World Championship run earlier this season, he’s won the Premier League and bagged four other titles on the European Tour and World Series of Darts Tour.
He’s got the better of MVG in three of their last five meetings, and in a race to 10 on Monday night is playing the more consistent darts to argue backing in the outrights.
Van Gerwen has blown hot and cold for over 18 months now. His record in Blackpool is good – winning three titles overall – but 2024 is the year of the Luke (Littler and Humphries).
Chris Dobey -2.5 legs vs Ritchie Edhouse
Down at number 46 in the world, Ritchie Edhouse is one of the lowest ranked players at this season’s World Matchplay.
The 41-year-old qualified due to some solid performances in the PDC ProTour Qualifiers, but his record in major televised competitions is lacklustre.
This will be his first appearance inside the Winter Gardens with his best run at a major coming in 2022 via a fourth round run at the UK Open.
Chris Dobey is number 14 on the PDC Order of Merit and knows how to win big matches. He’s become a serial quarter-finalist in the ranking tournaments, and a run to the last eight isn’t beyond him again this year.
