- Luke Humphries to win & most 180s - 10/11 with Betfred
- Over 31.5 legs - 5/6 with Betfred
- Luke Humphries to lead after 6 legs - 11/8 with Betfred
It’s the big one on Sunday night: Luke Humphries vs Michael van Gerwen for the 2024 World Matchplay title.
It’s a title that MVG knows well having won it three times in his career, most recently in 2022, but the Dutchman will rarely come into a major final as such a weighty underdog.
Luke Humphries – the world number one and reigning world champion – is an 8/15 FAV with bet365 to scoop the Matchplay for the first time, adding to his four ranking titles over the last 12 months.
The final’s play is a race to 18 in Blackpool, but who will “like to be beside the seaside” by 11pm on Sunday night?
Let’s take a look at the best tips for Sunday’s final, plus the best darts betting offers from the top betting sites.
World Matchplay Darts Betting Tips
- Luke Humphries to win & most 180s
- Over 31.5 legs
- Luke Humphries to lead after 6 legs
There’s a big question hanging over the head of Michael van Gerwen coming into Sunday’s final – his missed doubles.
Despite beating Michael Smith 17-13 on Saturday night, the Dutchman missed 40 attempts at double, recording a 29.82% checkout percentage en route to his fifth final here at the World Matchplay.
But in order to gain that many shots at doubles, you’ve got to be scoring well, and van Gerwen did, to some degree, despite only nailing five maximums. His 98 average won’t be feared by Humphries, especially following a week where the Englishman hasn’t averaged under 101 across his four dominant wins en route to a first Matchplay final.
Humphries’ checkout percentage for the week is up at a lofty 46 and it’s hard to envisage MVG being given enough chances on his own doubles to break Humphries in the important legs on Sunday night.
Humphries isn’t losing darts matches at the moment, and in a race to 18, “Cool Hand” has plenty of time to settle into his dominant rhythm and to ask plenty of questions of van Gerwen’s finishing.
Humphries to win and bang the most 180s looks the best bet for Sunday night, but van Gerwen’s 48 major career titles in the PDC suggests that he won’t go down without a fight.
Over 31.5 legs gives us the opportunity for this one to go 18-14 or closer, which feels right in a game that is going to ebb and flow throughout a gruelling couple of hours.
