Blades Visit Merseyside

With teams in and around the bottom three picking up points on Tuesday, Sheffield United’s peril at the bottom of the table has seemingly worsened.

Time Running Out

After seeing the perfect combination of results unfold on Sunday, it is Liverpool who ended Easter at the top of the Premier League. Two points clear of Arsenal and a further point clear of Manchester City in third.

However, Liverpool’s two nearest challengers are in action before Jurgen Klopp’s men in this midweek round of fixtures and although the Anfield outfit are top at the time of writing, they could go into Thursday’s clash with Sheffield United two places worse off.

Regardless of whether the Gunners and the defending champions have done the business beforehand, the Merseyside men simply need to focus on the task in hand and more importantly, keeping outright Premier League success in their own hands.

A win on Thursday night would either return or solidify their standing on the top rung of the league ladder and with Chris Wilder’s side making the trip over from Sheffield, they will not have an easier opportunity to resume the status quo before the weekend.

With Nottingham Forest picking up a comfortable win at home to Fulham on Tuesday, the Blades’ position at the bottom of the table is even more uncomfortable and with a 10-point gap between the Bramall Lane outfit and survival, time is ticking on their top tier return.

While it was a goal in added time that stopped Sheffield United picking up a win of their own over Fulham last Saturday. After racing into a 3-1 lead with 20 minutes remaining, it looked as if just their fourth win of the league season was to be recorded.

However, Bobby De Cordova-Reid would halve the deficit with four minutes left on the clock and Rodrigo Muniz’s sensational volley three minutes into added time, meant the Cottagers picked up what looked like an unlikely point.

Not unlikely before the game got underway but certainly within the ebb and flow of those 90-plus minutes in Yorkshire and if there was a microcosm of Sheffield United’s season, then Saturday’s performance would be close to it.

Flashes of the quality that is needed to compete in the Premier League but masters of their own downfall more often than not and with the return of Chris Wilder as manager offering little in the way of bounce, their return to the Championship will not be too far away.

But now it is time for the first of my two tips and with a Liverpool win offering nothing in the way of value, the margin of victory at least does. Therefore. I am going to back the Reds to beat the Blades by three clear goals at odds of 15/4.

In addition to this, I am also going to back Darwin Nunez to get on the scoresheet but if this bet is to come good, it needs to be from outside the box. A long-range rocket from the Uruguayan would also secure winning odds of 17/2.
