Horse racing tips for the meetings at Musselburgh & Ballinrobe on Tuesday

The meeting at Musselburgh is the only card to survive the current heatwave in Britain on Tuesday. We have two horse racing tips from the Scottish racecourse and one from the Irish evening fixture at Ballinrobe.

4.45pm Musselburgh - The Thin Blue Line (Nap of the Day)

Keith Dalgleish’s course and distance winner is fancied to get the better of old rival Primo’s Comet in this 5f sprint handicap.

3.00pm Musselburgh - Celestial Star (Next Best)

On the face of it, the Keith Dalgleish-trained Celestial Star may have been slightly disappointing when beaten as an odds-on favourite at Ayr earlier this month. But the unexposed three-year-old may have faced a stiffer task than first appeared at the time, as the winner, Negwah, was having just her third start and open to a lot more improvement.

The mount of Callum Rodriguez has been dropped 3lb for that effort to a mark of 72 and based on the fillies’ neck second in a maiden on this course back in May, to a horse now rated 85, should be up to winning a Class 5 handicap against a field of mainly exposed rivals, the best of which looks to be Baileys Liberty from the Charlie & Mark Johnston stable.

4.45pm Musselburgh - The Thin Blue Line (Nap of the Day)

There are only five runners for this 5f sprint handicap that concerns old rivals The Thin Blue Line and Primo’s Comet. Of the pair, Keith Dalgleish’s charge has much better form on the course and is taken to defy top weight in the hands of jockey Callum Rodriguez.

The four-year-old’s only turf victory to date came over today’s course and distance back in April, with Primo’s Comet four lengths back in fourth place. But the gelding has been running well in defeat since then, including when beating all bar favourite Only Spoofing here last month and is more than capable of winning again off a mark of 79.

7.30pm Ballinrobe - Karla Martina (Longshot)

Not a lot of worthwhile form to go on in an effort to decipher this modest extended 2m 5f handicap hurdle. One horse who has run well on the course on more than one occasion is the Norman Lee-trained Karla Martina who has a good chance of opening her account over hurdles at the twelfth attempt.

The seven-year-old mare has not been finishing off her races after running freely in the early stages but has been placed six times, twice on this course. On the forecast good ground and providing her 7lb claiming rider Robbie Georghegan can keep something in reserve for the business end of the race, the daughter of Robin Des Champs, unlucky on her penultimate start at Roscommon when unseating her rider after being hampered by a loose horse when holding every chance, Karla Martina looks sure to go well.
