How NBA Odds Work

Point Spread

Total Points
Also known as over/under betting, this market lets you bet on whether both teams’ combined score will finish above or below a set total, such as 224.5 points.
Parlay
Known as an accumulator in the UK, a parlay combines two or more selections into one bet. Every selection must win for the bet to pay out. Some bookmakers also offer same-game parlays, similar to UK bet builders.
Futures
Futures are bets on outcomes settled later in the season. Popular examples include the NBA Championship winner, MVP award and a team’s regular-season win total.

How the NBA Works
The NBA has 30 teams across the USA and Canada, split into two conferences: the Eastern Conference and the Western Conference.
Each has three divisions of five teams. The East comprises the Atlantic, Central and Southeast divisions, while the West has the Pacific, Southwest and Northwest divisions.
Every team plays 82 regular-season games, split equally between home and away.
The top six teams in each conference qualify automatically for the play-offs, while teams finishing seventh to tenth compete in a play-in tournament for the final two spots.
The 16 play-off teams then compete in best-of-seven series, with each round determining who advances.
The Eastern and Western Conference champions ultimately meet in the NBA Finals to decide the league champion.

How does moneyline betting work in the NBA?
A moneyline bet is a bet on which team wins the game, overtime included. The favourite has a minus number such as -150 and the underdog has a plus number such as +130. There is no draw option.
What does against the spread mean?
Against the spread (ATS) means betting on a team after a points handicap is applied. If you back the underdog at +6.5, your bet wins if they win the game or lose by six points or fewer. If you back the favourite at -6.5, they have to win by seven or more.
What does +200 money line mean in NBA betting?
+200 are American odds. A 100 stake returns 200 profit, so 300 in total. In fractional odds, that's 2/1, and in decimal it's 3.00.
What does over/under mean in the NBA?
Over/under is a bet on a number, most often total points. If the line is 224.5 and the teams score 230 combined, the over wins. It's also used for player props, such as a player scoring over or under 27.5 points.
