Frenkie de Jong was a product of the Willem II academy in Holland and made one Eredivisie appearance for the club before joining Ajax at the age of 18.

Ajax purchased de Jong in the summer of 2015 for £1 million and he was used in their youth team before being loaned back to Willem II in 2016.
In the 2016-17 season with Ajax Amsterdam de Jong made his breakthrough, making 11 appearances across all competitions as well as scoring his first competitive goal for the club and picking up a Europa League runners up medal.
De Jong’s importance within the Ajax side grew during the 2017-18 season and at the age of just 20 – he made 26 appearances for the club in all competitions – playing mainly at centre back or in the heart of midfield.
