There is only one place to start with Friday at Royal Ascot – the weather. 20mm of rain has fallen overnight and the FreeBets team believe that will have a major impact on the racing.
As Ed Quigley points out, there is the potential for “carnage” at Ascot today as runners are pulled out all over place due to the changing ground which may even be heavy by the later races.
The day starts with the Albany Stakes which looks a tough one to call for punters but both Charlie McCann and Peter Scudamore like the look of Flotus at 11/4 with Betfair.
The ground is the key for Ed Quigley’s fancy, Belloccio, who is 6/1 with 888sport in the King Edward VII Stakes while Charlie likes the look of Title at 11/2 with bet365.
The Commonwealth Cup is the first Group 1 of the day and Ed points out that the horses towards the top of the market are the ones with proven soft ground form so their chances do look solid especially Suesa who “could be quite special” according to Charlie and is a solid 11/4 favourite with bet365.
Mother Earth is the right favourite for the Coronation Stakes according to Ed but at the prices he is very sweet about the chances of Potapova at 12/1 with Betfair.
The Sandringham Stakes is “one of the hardest races to solve of the whole week” according to Ed but he does think that Prado is a tempting option with Jamie Spencer capable of guiding him to a place at 22/1 with BetVictor.
Scu has a fancy in the last race, with Dream Composer who is 2lb wrong but is ridden by the impressive Laura Pearson who claims 5lb and can guide him to victory at 7/1 with 888sport.
