2024 Darts Players Championship – Favourites & Outsiders
Luke Littler - 11/4 to win the 2024 Darts Players Championship
After blitzing his way to the Grand Slam of Darts title last weekend, teenage sensation Luke Littler will be backing himself to use that momentum moving into the back end of 2024.
He has picked up two major TV title already at the Premier League and Grand Slam, and starts in Minehead as a daunting 11/4 FAV with bet365.
Littler burst onto the scene on the Players Championship Tour back in February winning the first event of the campaign, hitting a nine-darter en route.
Seeded 8th, Littler finds himself in a tricky little segment alongside the likes of Rob Cross, Richie Edhouse, Michael van Gerwen and James Wade.
Luke Humphries - 4/1 to win the 2024 Darts Players Championship
Humphries was well off the boil in Wolverhampton, but after an unlikely early exit, we’re expecting the world number one – and reigning Darts Players Championship champion – to return to form in Minehead.
Barring the Grand Slam, Humphries has come close to or won every major event over the past 12 months and his credentials certainly shouldn’t be questioned as we approach another World Championship.
Humphries is 4/1 with bet365 - “Cool Hand” only won Week 26 in Wigan on the Tour, but missed out on nearly half of the 30 floor events.
Gary Anderson - 9/1 to win the 2024 Darts Players Championship
With a mixed bag of results in the televised majors, some of Gary Anderson’s best work in 2024 has come in the floor events of the Players Championship.
He has won two, contested several and also picked up a European Tour title after claiming he simply doesn’t practise anymore.
What he is doing is working, for now, and a semi-final run at the Grand Slam of Darts underlined his constant threat in TV majors.
9/1 still feels a little short considering the last time the “Flying Scotsman” was up on the stage collecting a big cheque (2018 in a singles tournament) and he’ll have to get out of a quarter containing Luke Humphries.
Martin Lukeman - 100/1 to win the 2024 Darts Players Championship
He couldn’t, could he?
Lukeman’s memorable run to the final at the Grand Slam of Darts was bought to an abrupt halt at the hands of Luke Littler, but momentum and form is everything in darts, and there is no reason why the 39-year-old can’t walk through the field again.
100/1 is a mega price but 2024 is the season of shocks on the PDC oche.
2024 Darts Players Championship Finals Tips
Check out our top tips for the 2024 Players Championship.
Stephen Bunting to win his Quarter
The “Bullet” is growing into a consistent performer at majors with his Masters title earlier this year acting as a springboard for some pretty good displays.
He made six finals from 29 Players Championship Tour events this season which is pretty good going, despite not getting over the line with a win.
His quarter is, on paper, the most favourable of the lot – the ‘big’ names in with him are the out of form Michael Smith and Peter Wright.
Luke Humphries to Reach the Final
We’re expecting “Cool Hand” to return to form in Minehead this weekend and run to the final at a minimum.
He won’t have to play his nemesis, Luke Littler, until the final at least, and if these two make it then be prepared to toss a coin to find the winner.
A nine-dart finish
There were 15 nine-dart finishes across the 30 Players Championship events this season, so with the cream of the crop arriving in Minehead, one more isn’t a lot to ask.
Luke Littler, Michael Smith, Steve Beaton, Darryl Pilgrim and many more names managed a perfect leg this year – Evens says we find another inside Butlin’s.
