Luke Humphries vs Mike De Decker – Over 19.5 180s
Luke Humphries 6-4 Mike De Decker
It’s a simple equation in Leicester: the best player across the last 18 months takes on the best player across the last week.
It’s no surprise that Luke Humphries has made his sixth TV final of the season, but it’s a big shock that Mike De Decker has enjoyed the best week of his career in reaching a maiden major final.
Despite losing the first set 3-0 in his semi-final against Dimitri van den Bergh, De Decker rallied well with a strong 86 average to eventually best his compatriot 5-2; his nine 180s helped him on the way despite a below average 38% on his checkouts.
Humphries hasn’t been perfect this week, but he was at his rampant best in the semis thrashing Ryan Joyce 5-0 thanks to a 60% checkout percentage.
Humphries’ 100 average has only been bettered by Ross Smith (101 in R1) this week, and the world champion is appearing to peak, once again, at the right time in a tournament.
De Decker has the ability and form to push this one the distance, but there simply doesn’t seem to be an easy way to beat Humphries in these big finals at the moment. “Cool Hand” isn’t losing many legs, sets or games and he’ll walk into Sunday’s final as a big favourite.
6-4 to Humphries feels right in a final that could catch fire, with 20 maximums or more.
