Australian Open Final : Tennis Betting Tips
Australian Open Betting Tips Preview
I won’t be going against my pre-tournament title tip Jannik Sinner, who is aiming for his third grand slam title overall and his second successive at Melbourne Park.
Each of the Italian's previous major successes came last year - in Melbourne and New York - while German Zverev is chasing his maiden grand slam title. This will be his third final appearance - one at each of the Australian, French and US Opens.
Zverev is actually ahead on the career head-to-head record against Sinner, leading 4-2. That includes victories at both the 2021 and the 2023 US Open events.
Zverev won through to the final having benefitted from Novak Djokovic’s injury-forced retirement after the latter lost the opening set of the semi-final before Sinner beat Ben Shelton 3-0 in an increasingly one-sided clash following a first set tiebreaker.
An interesting aspect of that clash was that Sinner didn’t look 100 percent fit. In recent months, he has dealt with a hip problem, but it seemed to be more muscular on this occasion.
Still, I expect him to be fine and would be taking betfair’s 13/10 on Sinner to win and both players to win a set. I much prefer that to the 4/11 on a Sinner outright win.
Remember, we also have interest in our pre-tournament bet on Sinner for the title, which we suggested at 11/8.
Lengthy affair between two in-form stars
Not only do I expect this to be a lengthy affair in terms of sets played, I can see a good number of the sets being tightly contested.
With that in mind, I quite like the look of betfair’s 6/5 on offer - via their #YourOdds selections - on Jannik Sinner to win the opening set of the final by a score of either 6-4, 7-5 or 7-6.
Moving on, BetGoodwin are offering 12/5 on this contest to go the distance in terms of sets, and that wouldn’t surprise me one bit. Both men are flying at the moment.
Sinner is on a 23-match winning streak in all competitions, including an exhibition event in Saudi Arabia late last year, while Zverev has won his last eight.
It’s incredible to think that Sinner has only lost one match since the start of the US Open last September. I expect them to trade blows and both have some success through to a five-set conclusion.
I’m going to have a dart at William Hill’s 10/3 on there to be exactly two tiebreaks in this contest. Both men have played out three en-route to the final.
And finally, I will wrap up this Australian Open tennis betting tips preview with a 5/1 shot with BoyleSports, which is for Sinner to win this final by 3-2 correct sets score.
