Ayr United boss Scott Brown and assistant Steven Whittaker know precisely what it takes to win the Scottish Cup, but their Hampden dreams could be dashed on Friday night when they both face their former club, Hibernian.
Brown, a six-time winner of the competition, has led Ayr to the top of the Championship, but they face a Hibs side in excellent form.
David Gray’s men were bottom of the Premiership in November after a crushing 4-1 loss at Dundee, leaving their manager on the brink.
But since then, they have been almost unstoppable, losing just once in 13 games against runaway leaders Celtic.
Defensively, the Leith side have tightened up, wing-backs Nicky and Chris Cadden are growing in influence, and Martin Boyle, with six goals in five games, looks back to his best.
Ayr, meanwhile, are flying at Somerset Park, unbeaten there since October, winning 10 of their last 12 games, keeping six clean sheets in their last seven, including an 8-0 Scottish Cup rout of Broxburn.
However, with promotion their main goal this season, this clash with Hibs will be a massive test of their credentials, and they are likely to come up short against a more experienced side - take a Hibernian win at Evens with SpreadEx.
Nicky Cadden has been a revelation since moving at the start of the season, adding a goal threat to his game at Easter Road.
Thriving in David Gray’s wing-back system, Cadden has balanced defensive duties with attacking contributions, netting five times this season, and his 1.8 shots per game rank him behind only Elie Youan and Mykola Kuharevic in the squad.
Fresh off scoring in the 2-0 win at Aberdeen, he looks overpriced at 12/1 with Betfair to grab the opening goal at Somerset Park.
