Liverpool v Bologna Match Preview
For all the talk of Manchester City or Arsenal winning this season’s edition of the Premier League, the early duel between the top two sides of the last two years has left the door wide enough for another outfit to gatecrash the party.
An outfit that comes in the shape of Liverpool and with six weeks of the new campaign in the history books, it is Arne Slot’s men who currently find themselves at the top of English football’s highest league ladder.
Fifteen points from the first 18 on offer has been quite the return for the Merseyside men under their new manager and with Slot’s arrival signaling evolution rather than revolution at Anfield, the evolution sees them set the early pace.
Whether this Liverpool side can last the pace and win their second Premier League title in the space of six seasons remains to be seen and before they reboot domestic activities at the weekend, it is the arrival of Bologna on Wednesday that serves as their primary focus.
Last season saw Bologna disrupt the usual order of business in Serie A and under then manager Thiago Motta, the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara outfit managed to finish fifth in the table and capitalise on the additional Champions League berth that the league was awarded.
The Champions League anthem blaring out a guaranteed eight times this season but because of their impressive Serie A finish at the end of last season, there was never any guarantee that Thiago Motta would be the man to lead them into continental battle.
For Bologna, now read Juventus for Motta and with the former Barcelona player now being replaced by Vincenzo Italiano, the 46-year-old is failing to hit the same heights as his predecessor managed just a few months prior.
To the point where Bologna have only picked up seven points from their first six games and although they have managed to go unbeaten in their last four league outings, three of those have ended in stalemate – a scenario that places them 13th in the table.
Five places better off than their current Champions League standing and after a goalless draw with Shakhtar Donetsk in Matchday 1, they have at least managed to open their account in the newly expanded league phase
But now it is time for the first of my two tips and although I think Liverpool will win, I think they will get their business done early. Therefore, I am going to back Arne Slot’s men to not score after the break at odds of 3/1 with bet365.
In addition to this, I am also going to back a blitz in terms of Liverpool’s attack. Looking at the correct score market at the end of the first half, a 3-0 lead at odds of 11/1 with Paddy Power appeals to me and this is also going on my betting slip.
