Noble Yeats Aiming for Cheltenham Gold Cup & Grand National Double

2022 Grand National winner Noble Yeats has two wins under his belt already this season, one on both sides of the Irish Sea. He’s set to run again this coming weekend at Lingfield, but in terms of his big targets, they both come in the spring.

Trainer Emmet Mullins has penciled in both the Cheltenham Gold Cup and Aintree Grand National for this horse, and he’s towards the head of the betting market for both races.

First up in the spring comes the Cheltenham Gold Cup, the pinnacle race of the Cheltenham Festival and as of today (16/01/23), Noble Yeats is listed as second favourite for the race, available at 7/1 with Coral. This is a stamina test, but should the race be on bad ground, or run at a very strong pace, then the test becomes even tougher. The tougher the race, the more chance Noble Yeats has of winning it.

Noble Yeats to win the Gold Cup - 7/1

The Grand National hero is second favourite to win the Gold Cup in 2023

Next up is the race he won last year, the Aintree Grand National. Of course, he’ll have more weight on his back this time around, but also more experience, including of the fences after last year. He leads the market for this race right now, though of course there are many trial contests to come, and is available at a best price of 14/1 with William Hill.

Noble Yeats to win the Grand National - 14/1

Noble Yeats is currently favourite to win back to back Grand National titles

Prior to those two races, the Fleur De Lys Chase at Lingfield on Sunday will be the next time we see this horse, and he arrives here on the back of two wins. Most recently, he came away from the field in impressive fashion to win the Many Clouds Chase at Aintree in early December. Before that, he won at Wexford, another comfortable success, winning with ease by almost five lengths.

Bigger tests come ahead, but there is no doubt that Emmet Mullins has put together the toughest possible schedule for his horse. While speaking about his runner last week, Mullins compared him to Hedgehunter, a horse who won a Grand National and then finished second in the Gold Cup a year later. Certainly big praise indeed, but also a sign of just how much they think of this horse.

Just two horses have won the Cheltenham Gold Cup and Aintree Grand National double, Noble Yeats has been given the task of trying to be the third to do it in 2023.
