Martin Lukeman – Highest Checkout & most 180s vs Nitin Kumar
On paper, Lukeman vs Kumar looks to be one of the most one-sided fixtures in the opening round of the championship.
Kumar came through Indian qualification again to reach the Ally Pally for the fourth time, but having been whitewashed 3-0 in 2019, 2020 and 2022, Lukeman will be licking his lips.
Lukeman’s 2024 has been superb. He reached the final of the Grand Slam of Darts and the UK Open quarter-finals; now 38th in the world rankings he’ll be looking to make a splash at the Worlds.
There’s not much value in this match unless you look at the specialist options – Highest Checkout and most 180s for “Smash”.
Matt Campbell to beat Mensur Suljovic
Upset alert!
Mensur Suljovic has been tumbling down the rankings for a few years now, and the 52-year-old hasn’t made a dent in a TV ranking tournament since back in 2021.
He failed to qualify for the tournament last year but is a serial second or third-rounder, never breaching past the third round.
Matt Campbell is well known at the Palace – he upset James Wade before running into a rampant Luke Littler and he’s got a win over Suljovic in his locker.
Michael Smith to beat Kevin Doets 3-2
Michael Smith’s 2024 makes us think he may struggle at this year’s Worlds.
“Bully Boy” has fallen earlier in events that he and many would expect, and he has lost to plenty of players with worse CV’s than Kevin Doets.
Doets averaged 88 in beating Noa-Lynn van Leuven 3-1 on Tuesday without really getting out of second gear and will be hoping he raises his game against the world champion from 2023.
These two met at the same stage of last year’s tournament with Smith winning through 3-2, so we’re backing the repeat at a lofty 4/1.
