Luke Littler to beat Michael van Gerwen
12 months on from losing out to Luke Humphries, Luke Littler is back in an attempt to re-write the history books in becoming the youngest darts world champion in history.
The 17-year-old has reached back-to-back finals whilst dominating the oche inside the Ally Pally, winning 11 of his 12 matches in north London, averaging over 100 on nine occasions and hitting an incredible 127 maximums on the most important oche in darts.
Sometimes you just have to look at the numbers in front of you and conclude that Littler is the player to beat at the moment, and as a 4/11 FAV with Paddy Power, it’s hard to argue with the bookies.
Yes, MVG is a former three-time world champion and the Dutchman is showing glimmers of the form that saw him dominate the sport for three or so years, but all the signs this year point towards Littler’s championship.
Luke Littler vs Michael van Gerwen – Over +36.5 180s
The 180 count stands at 64-43 in favour of Littler at this year’s championship, with both players having contested the same number of sets (30) across the campaign.
It seems unlikely that MVG will out-maxi Littler on Friday night – especially considering how many times he moves down to the 19s – but if we get over 10 or 11 sets in this final then 37 or more 180s looks on.
Both these guys are known for their power scoring and in sets that could frequently go five legs, we’re going Over on the 180 count.
Luke Littler vs Michael van Gerwen – 170 Finish in the match
You’ll be hard-pressed in finding two players that leave the “big fish” finish more frequently than both Luke Littler and Michael van Gerwen.
We’ve already seen five 170 finishes at this year’s tournament – including one from Littler himself – and in nip and tuck legs we can expect the finish to be left more and more often as they attempt to pressure each others throws.
The nine-dart finish is also worth a look in a game between two giants of the sport, but 9/4 for the 170 looks the most appetising.
