Peterborough v Oxford Betting Tips & Predictions
Of the two League One playoff semi finals, this is definitely the most evenly poised game as we head into second leg week.
Both Peterborough and Oxford will fancy their chances here, but only one will make it through to the Wembley final.
Check out my Peterborough v Oxford betting tips and predictions for Wednesday night’s game below.
Peterborough v Oxford Match Preview
A very tight first leg ended with Oxford holding a 1-0 lead as we move forward to the second game.
I didn’t think there was much between the teams there, Oxford had a good first half, and deserved the lead when they took it in the second half, but after the goal, Peterborough played well, and had a few opportunities to get the game back level.
What I would add to that is it seemed to me that when they went behind Peterborough opened up a little more, and that’s the way they are going to play in this second leg, both due to being behind and due to playing at home.
So I get the feeling that Oxford may have to weather some pressure for large parts of this game. Of course, they can’t abandon attacking themselves, sitting back against this Peterborough team is not a tactic I’d recommend.
I thought when Kwame Poku and Ricky-Jade Jones came on for Peterborough, they looked to have a far more balanced threat, and a front four that had more chemistry, so don’t be surprised to see those two start this game, and try to make an impact from the off.
Oxford are going to have to fight for their lives here, make no mistake about that. But they have hope, have a lead, and have kept Peterborough off the scoresheet in their last two meetings now, both coming within the last month.
Do the same on Wednesday night, and Wembley awaits.
Peterborough v Oxford Predictions
I think a slightly more free-flowing Peterborough will come out on Wednesday, they need a goal and are at home, so naturally play more on the front foot.
This will lead to a lot of pressure on the Oxford goal, and eventually, I think it will tell.
I am going to take Peterborough to win this one in 90 minutes, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see them needing extra time and possibly penalties to get the job done overall and reach Wembley.
Peterborough v Oxford Betting Tips
To kick things off, I will back Peterborough to win this game in 90 minutes, they look solid at 23/20 with Betfred.
I’m going to take that a step further, and go to one of the special markets available for this game with Paddy Power, which is the method of victory market. I think Peterborough will need the distance here, so my second bet is Peterborough to win the game in extra time, available at 9/1.
Lastly, a player, I think Ricky-Jade Jones will start this one, he made an impact from the bench on Saturday, and missed a really good chance near the end of the game. He won’t miss again, and is my pick to score the first goal at 7/1 with Unibet.
