Sony Open 3-Ball Betting Tips

The Hawaii swing of the PGA Tour campaign continues with the Sony Open on Thursday, and we have another round of 3-ball betting tips to accompany the first round.
While there is a strong field on show at the Waialae Country Club, Scottie Scheffler is conspicuous by his absence, and the World No.1 has also pulled out of The American Express with a hand injury.
Nevertheless, the Sony Open could provide plenty of birdie opportunities, and the winning 72-hole average over the past 12 tournament editions has been -20.
Hideki Matsuyama will be looking to secure back-to-back triumphs after storming to a stunning three-shot win at The Sentry where he fired a total of -35, the lowest score to par in PGA Tour history.
Waialae plays quite short (just a tad over 7,000 yards), so accuracy with the irons and off the tee is paramount.
Earlier this week, I explored and shared some outright golf betting tips, but now the focus will fall on the 3-ball betting tips, so let’s get stuck in, plus our best golf betting offers from the top online bookmakers.
Sony Open 3-Ball Betting Tips - Round One
Harry Hall to beat Seamus Power & Brandt Snedeker
Coming off the back of a great week at The Sentry where he finished T8 with a score of -23, Harry Hall sank some big birdies, and Sunday was the only day he didn’t shoot below 70.
He was virtually immaculate from tee to green, ranking fifth for SG: Tee-of-the Green and eighth for SG: Total. His game is looking rock solid now and he will be one to watch.
Seamus Power, meanwhile, will be making his first start of the season, and his last appearance on the Tour was at the RSM Classic before he withdrew following the conclusion of the first round.
Similarly, Brandt Snedeker will be taking his bow in 2025, but five missed cuts from his past seven PGA Tour appearances tell their own story.
Hall caught my eye last week, and for the first of my 3-ball betting tips, I’m going with the Englishman to seize the advantage in this group.
Keegan Bradley to beat Tom Kim & Brian Harman
Although a surprise choice to captain the US Ryder Cup team, Keegan Bradley silenced some of his doubters at The Sentry.
Kicking off the season by coming in T15 with a total score of -21 showed there are no serious cobwebs or chinks in his game.
Tom Kim, however, was well off the pace at The Sentry with a T45 finish, while Brian Harman (58th) was even further back.
Although Kim and Harman have big games and can go low, Bradley could well be a dark horse, even though I overlooked him for my outrights.
Nevertheless, Bradley could pick off Kim and Harman and take the honours in Round 1.
Hideki Matsuyama to beat Sahith Theegala & Russell Henley
Arguably the popcorn 3-ball of the day, there is plenty of star power on show.
Matsuyama produced a lights-out performance at The Sentry surging to the victory post, and every facet of the game was sumptuous.
The Japanese ace, a former Masters champion, was too hot for Collin Morikawa to handle, but that won’t faze Sahith Theegala and Russell Henley.
Theegala’s shot-making lends itself nicely to shorter courses, and there is a correlation between those that have performed well at coastal courses such as Harbour Town (RBC Heritage) and The Sony Open.
Henley, of course, is a former champion at Waialae, and he had top-four finishes in 2022 and 2024.
But things are clicking for Matsuyama at the moment, and to round off my 3-ball betting tips, I’m going with him to take the spoils in Round 1.
