Southampton Promotion Odds: 6/4 after West Brom win

Southampton have booked their place in the 2023/24 Championship play-off final, which takes place on Sunday, May 26.

The Saints faced off with West Brom at the semi-final stage and were held to 0-0 draw during the first-leg meeting at the Hawthorns.

They then welcomed the Baggies to St Mary’s on Friday evening, heading into that game as favourites to advance. When all was said and done, they came out on top and are now 6/4 to be promoted to the Premier League for the 2024/25 season.

Southampton Promotion Odds

After a 0-0 draw in the away leg last week, Southampton kicked off at St Mary’s with the home advantage as they looked to book their place in the showpiece. The first 45 minutes of action proved a tough test for the Saints, with West Brom holding their own before the floodgates opened in the second half. Will Smallbone made it 1-0 after 49 minutes before an Adam Armstrong brace ensured a comfortable 3-1 win for the home side and, in turn, a meeting with Leeds United in the final.

Southampton ended the normal 2023/24 Championship campaign in rather poor form. They were fighting for a top-two spot a few months back but eventually had to settle for 4th place after losing three of their last four. However, they did manage to beat their upcoming opponents, Leeds, 2-1 on the final day, which should give them a major confidence boost ahead of Wembley.

Leeds United’s Promotion Odds

Southampton will meet Leeds United in the 2023/24 Championship play-off final next weekend.

Leeds spent much of 2023/24 in the automatic promotion places and were among the favourites to secure a return to England’s premier division.

However, the Whites won just one of their last five league outings, including losing 2-1 to Southampton on the last day. This saw Ipswich Town clinch 2nd place, joining Leicester City in the top flight.

Leeds went on to finish 3rd in the table, being drawn against 6th-place Norwich in the semi-finals of the play-offs. The Peacocks drew 0-0 with the Canaries in their first-leg meeting last week but absolutely dominated in the return fixture at Elland Road on Thursday. Goals from Ilia Gruev, Joel Piroe, Georgino Rutter and Crysencio Summerville saw Leeds cruise to a comfortable 4-0 win in Yorkshire. They are now 4/5 favourites to be promoted to the Premier League this season.
