T20 World Cup Cricket Betting Tips: West Indies v England
It’s the dangerous co-hosts versus the relieved title holders for this T20 World Cup Betting Tips preview. England oh so nearly missed out on qualification, but now they aim to capitalise
- England to win and both teams score 160+ - 11/10 with Betfair
- Highest individual score to be over 64.5 - 5/6 with bet365
- Gudakesh Motie to take over 1.5 wickets - 7/4 with bet365
- Phil Salt to be England’s top run-scorer - 7/2 with Betfair
- England to win, England to have the highest opening partnership and post over 51.5 in the powerplay - 9/2 with William Hill
It’s a red eye game for England supporters, but will they be bright-eyed and bushy-tailed come breakfast time celebrating a win over the powerful West Indies?
I’ve really enjoyed this World Cup, I have to say. Cricket authorities usually make a mess of scheduling, but the ICC’s format for this tournament has been spot on. There has been entertainment and jeopardy all the way through.
England didn’t do a massive amount wrong, but they were on the brink of an early exit a couple of times.
They weren’t great against Scotland in the first half of their washed out opener, there’s no shame in losing to prospective champions Australia, they were superb against Oman and nearly got done by the weather before brushing Namibia aside.
As I detailed at the start of the tournament, I don’t think they will defend their title, but I do expect them to advance to the semi-finals. Therefore, a win here is expected against a West Indian team who are full of power and excitement.
There’s more than enough batting power on both sides for betfair’s 11/10 on England to win and for both teams to post totals of 160 or more.
I’d prefer that bet than an outright England win at 4/5.

West Indies v England T20 World Cup Betting Tips
Motie’s Gud - it’s worth backing him
Before I get onto West Indies left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie, I will continue this T20 World Cup Betting Tips preview with a short-priced bet. That is bet365′s 5/6 on the highest individual score in the match to be over 64.5.
I will return to my previous comment about there being more than enough batting quality on show to secure this market. That’s been covered in two of the three West Indies games. We haven’t yet seen that for England, but they’ve only batted twice and one of those was an 10-over innings against Namibia.
Motie has taken five wickets in his last two matches; three against New Zealand and two against Afghanistan last time out.
He averages better than a wicket a game through both his T20 career overall (55 wickets in 45 games) and his IT20 career (20 in 12), and I like the 7/4 bet365 are offering on him take over 1.5 wickets in this fixture.
I will be taking betfair’s 7/2 on Phil Salt to be England’s top run-scorer in the match. He is yet to catch fire in this World Cup - 37, 12 and 11 - but he loves playing against the West Indies.
Four of his top six IT20 scores have come against this opponent, including two pre-Christmas centuries in a bilateral series defeat in the Caribbean.
And, finally, William Hill - via their Match Trebles section - have an enticing 9/2 shot on an England win, England to have the highest score at the fall of each team’s first wicket and for England to post over 51.5 runs in the first six-over powerplay.
