US Open Men’s Final Betting Tips Preview
It’s 15 years since an American man last reached the final of a Grand Slam event, and 21 since an American last won one. Andy Roddick reached the final at Wimbledon in 2009 and won the US Open back in 2003.
Taylor Fritz has ended the wait for a US finalist, but I suspect the wait for a US Grand Slam men’s champion will go on.
Fair play to world number one Jannik Sinner for putting behind him what must have been a very difficult situation regarding the banned substance issues he faced in the build-up to this tournament. It tells you a lot about the Italian’s mental strength.
He will have to show a bit more of that in this final because, while there’s no doubt that he has world number 12 Fritz covered for quality, a fervent home crowd will not make things easy.
I do see Sinner winning this one, adding to his Australian Open title at the start of the year, but I wouldn’t be taking the 2/7 widely on offer. I just don’t see the value.
William Hill have Sinner at 13/10 to win with both players winning a set. That’s worth siding with in my view.
Jan’s the man
Firstly, I’ve compiled a bet365 bet builder treble, at 11/5, on Sinner to win, Fritz to win at least a set and the American to serve the most Aces in the match.
Sinner has had a couple of rounds where he hasn’t hit five Aces in the match, whereas Fritz’s lowest total in his six games so far is seven. His highest is 24.
These two players have met twice before, ironically both on hard court in the States at Indian Wells. Fritz won a round of 16 clash in 2021 2-0 and Sinner won a quarter-final last year 2-1.
Fritz has shown enough to suggest he can take a set off Sinner, who was challenged in the opening set of his semi-final by Jack Draper before going on to win in straight sets. Draper had points for 6-5 in the opening set but didn’t take them.
Fritz, the world number 12, battled back from a set down twice to win a five-set semi-final against Frances Tiafoe.
Betano’s boosted 11/4 on Sinner to win 3-1 correct sets score is enticing.
Paddy Power have 7/2 on offer for there to be over 1.5 tie breaks in the final.
That’s worth serious consideration. Both serve well and have had three tiebreaks apiece in the tournament so far. Fritz had two of them in his quarter-final win over Alexander Zverev.
Finally, how about Betway’s 4/1 on Sinner to win the match after losing the opening set?
He lost his opening set of the tournament to another American Mackenzie McDonald and has had a couple of close-fought opening sets since which could have gone either way, including against Britain’s Draper in the semi-final.
Fritz, backed by the home crowd, could be up and about early.
