Wyndham Championship 3-Ball Betting Tips - Day One

  • Victor Perez to beat Nicolai Hojgaard & Max Greyserman
  • Jordan Spieth to beat Justin Rose & Will Zalatoris
  • Billy Horschel to beat Brian Harman & Robert MacIntyre

The end of the regular season on the PGA Tour draws to a conclusion this weekend, and there is plenty to play for in North Carolina.

With the FedEx Cup playoffs drawing sharply into focus, there are 500 points up for grabs too as well as a huge pay cheque.

Sedgefield Country Club, a par 70, will provide the setting for this week’s tournament, and there is a pretty strong field too, although Scottie Scheffler, who has an insurmountable lead going into the playoffs, will be sitting this one out.

The tee-off times have already been announced for the opening round, and so without further ado, let’s provide some customary Wyndham Championship 3-ball tips for you to compile an acca, plus our best golf betting offers from the top online bookmakers.

Victor Perez to beat Nicolai Hojgaard & Max Greyserman

After thrilling the local crowds last week in Paris at the Olympics, Victor Perez, who was pipped to a medal by Hideki Matsuyama may feel the pressure will be ramped up a notch or two.

The Frenchman was in sublime form in his final round, carding a final round of 63, and when on song, he can produce some fireworks.

Just on the fringes in the FedEx Cup standings (71st), Perez needs a big week, and he is my outright tip for the Wyndham Championship.

Nicolai Hojgaard, meanwhile, who is 81st in the FedEx Cup standings has a tall order on his hands to break in through the back door, while Max Greyserman has all but punched his ticket.

It would be amiss to discard Perez, and I think he could set the tone in the opening round in this group. To provide lift-off for the Wyndham Championship 3-ball betting tips, I’m going with Perez to take the spoils.

Jordan Spieth to beat Justin Rose & Will Zalatoris

Having been stuck in neutral gear so far this summer, it’s time for Jordan Spieth to put his foot down on the accelerator.

A T25 at the Open Championship last month remains his best result since a T10 at the Valero Texas Open back in April, and the American, barring a strange confluence in events, should be at the FedEx Cup playoffs.

A former FedEx Cup champion and three-time Major winner, this group will make for fascinating viewing.

Will Zalatoris may have only played 17 events this, but he can be very effective with his iron play. Ranking 14th in stats with his approaches from more than 200 yards out of the rough is worth noting given some of the tight pin positions at Sedgefield.

While Justin Rose missed out at the Olympics, perhaps a surprising stat is that he has gone sub-70 in an opening round since the Cognizant Classic in March, and that could count against him.

I fancy Spieth to step things up and edge out Rose and Zalatoris on Thursday.

Billy Horschel to beat Brian Harman & Robert MacIntyre

With some strong putters in this group, there could be a few birdies notched up in the opening round.

Billy Horschel, a FedEx Cup specialist, and with a win under his belt this term, ranks 13th for SG: Putting, while Robert MacIntyre, the Scottish Open champion, can be red hot with his flat stick.

Brian Harman, last year’s Champion Golfer of the Year, has been through some fits and bursts this term, and in his last appearance in the US, he finished T9 at the Travelers Championship.

However, if push comes to shove, I’m going to go with Horschel to nab the opening round.
