2022 Grand Slam of Darts Preview and Betting Tips

The 2022 Grand Slam of Darts heads to Wolverhampton this weekend and we’ve plucked out some of the best Group Stage betting.

Blink and you’ll miss some of the action this weekend as the PDC roadshow heads to Wolverhampton for the Grand Slam of Darts.

Eight groups of four will battle it out for a spot in the last 16 and the chance to grab one of the more unique trophies on the ever-growing darting calendar.

Gerwyn Price is the reigning champion following a faultless 2021 campaign but will be expecting a response from the three-time winner Michael van Gerwen as he continues to climb back to the top of his game.

Play gets underway on Saturday afternoon, so let’s take a closer look at the Group Stage betting at this festival of darts.

Gerwyn Price, Danny Noppert and Michael Smith to win Groups A, B & C at 5/1 with Paddy Power

We’re going for the big-hitters in the first three groups.

In Gerwyn Price, Danny Noppert and Michael Smith, we have three men in form that should be pushing the maximum six points in their groups.

  • Gerwyn Price’s price in Group A has been bumped up due to the competition in his way – namely Raymond van Barneveld and Dave Chisnall – but the Welshman has real form at the Grand Slam and enjoys these quick races to 5 legs.
  • Michael Smith has to get past Joe Cullen in Group C but his recent run at the European Championships suggests that the St. Helens man will once again be a threat at the Grand Slam.
  • Danny Noppert is the lowest seeded group topper at 8, but has been handed a favourable draw against Simon Whitlock, Mensur Suljovic and Christian Perez, guys with experience but a lack of recent form.

Michael Smith to win the Grand Slam of Darts at 12/1 with bet365

Michael Smith lost his eighth major TV final last month against an unlikely Ross Smith, underlining his spot as the bridesmaid on the PDC Tour.

But the biggest difference spotted was Smith’s reaction to that defeat.

He has been in tears on the stage on numerous occasions in the past, but this recent European Championship final loss to Smith was taken in his stride, understanding that he did all he could against the purple patch of his namesake.

It’s positive that the 32-year-old won’t be moping around.

He has made the semi-finals twice at the Grand Slam and the quarter-finals on another three occasions and we fancy him to make another good stab at the 2022 tournament.

He has made three TV finals already in 2022 and is arguably the best in-form player on the tour, despite still awaiting a maiden big crown.

Martin Schindler, Ross Smith and Josh Rock to qualify from Groups D, G & H at 3/1 with Paddy Power

In these short races to 5 in the group stages there are usually a handful of surprises, and if you are going to bank on a few shocks, then it’s best to focus on the players in form.

Look no further than Josh Rock when you’re looking for a player in form.

There is little stopping this youngster right now in his incredible debut year on the Tour, with the Northern Irishman already picking up a title in the PDC Players Championship series. Who is to say he can’t drag that form to Wolverhampton?

Along with Martin Schindler in a ‘pick’em’ Group D and the European Championship winner Ross Smith, we think this trio should be able to scrape into the knockout rounds.
