The Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle, better known as the Fred Winter Hurdle, is for four-year-old novice hurdlers only.
This race was created for those who couldn’t get into the Triumph Hurdle, the Grade One race for four-year-olds on the Friday of the Cheltenham Festival, but over the years, we’ve seen some very talented future Grade One horses come out of the Boodles Juvenile.
Irish trainer Gordon Elliott has farmed the race recently, saddling the winner four times since 2013, including last year when Jazzy Matty was successful.

Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle Tips
A competitive handicap for young horses, look out for gambles and big opinions in one of the most fascinating races on the opening day of the Cheltenham Festival.
And Ed Quigley expects the famous JP McManus silks to be ridden to victory this year.
Ed Quigley - Milan Tino
This is fiercely competitive so stakes are at the minimum. French raider MILAN TINO has shown some smart form this season, and off a mark of 126, I think he will be right in the mix.
His form when third behind Sir Gino last time out reads well, and he gets the nod from me here with Jonjo O’Neill Jnr in the saddle. This combination shouldn’t be far away.
Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle Betting Odds
As is typical with this race, it’s a big field heading to post and a wide-open betting heat for the Boodles Hurdle.
Milan Tino and Lark In The Mornin head the betting but expect the cash to come for the Gordon Elliott-trained Ndawi on race day - Elliott has an excellent record in the race, saddling the winner four times in the last ten years, including in 2023.
What Happened Last Year?
It was a 1-2-3 for Ireland in the 2023 Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle, with Jazzy Matty winning the race for trainer Gordon Elliott under jockey Michael O’Sullivan.
Sent off at odds of 18/1, Jazzy Matty stayed on bravely up the Cheltenham hill to land the win in a thrilling finish.
