Arsenal v Tottenham Match Preview
Arsenal and Tottenham will collide in what could be another explosive North London Derby in the Premier League on Wednesday evening.
In a slight change to the traditional fixture computer, the first encounter this term took place back in September at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with Arsenal clinching a 1-0 win thanks to a Gabriel header.
However, fast forward four months, and the Gunners have hit a bit of a bump in the road. They are on the verge of EFL Cup elimination after a 2-0 defeat at home to Newcastle in the first leg of the semi-final tie, and they crashed out against Manchester United in the FA Cup Third Round last weekend despite playing nearly an hour against 10 men following Diogo Dalot’s dismissal.
More worryingly, the Gunners’ injury crisis is showing no signs of abating with Gabriel Jesus stretchered off against United with a knee injury, while Ethan Nwaneri and Bukayo Saka are still out along with Riccardo Calafiori.
Mikel Arteta knows all too well the magnitude of this fixture, and given his side trail table toppers Liverpool by six points in the title race, this feels like a must-win game for Arsenal.
Tottenham, on the other hand, have floundered in the league as they are currently 12th in the table, but they have kept two clean sheets in a row in all competitions against Liverpool and Tamworth repsectively. The latter, however, will not have made for pleasant viewing for those of a Tottenham persuasion as they needed extra time before claiming a 3-0 win.
A North London Derby always sets the pulses racing, but how will things pan out? I’ve got a couple of betting tips lined up to support my Arsenal v Tottenham predictions.
Arsenal to be frustrated at the Emirates again
Despite still being within a chance of winning two trophies, there is a blanket of gloom that is covering Arsenal.
Following the FA Cup exit to United, and on the brink of going out of the EFL Cup against Newcastle barring an improbable turnaround, Arsenal’s dip has come at the most inopportune time.
Yes, they have been lethal from corners, scoring more than 20 goals this term, with Gabriel, in particular profiting.
However, in recent weeks, they have struggled to fashion out many clear-cut opportunities, and when they have arrived, they haven’t been converted.
Tottenham, let’s not forget, haven’t thrived at the Emirates, winning just one of their last 31 Premier League away games there.
Arsenal are looking to complete a Premier League double over Tottenham for the fifth time, and Tottenham have conceded at least once in their past 25 league trips to the red half of North London.
Ange Postecoglou would like to think Tottenham are perhaps beginning to turn the corner, and they could frustrate the Gunners. For the first of my Arsenal Tottenham predictions, I’m going with a draw which seems enticing at 17/4 with bet365.
Dejan Kulusevski to give David Raya plenty to think about
Despite being leaky at the back, Tottenham have had no trouble scoring goals (42 to be more precise) with only league leaders Liverpool (47) scoring more this term.
One of their star players, Dejan Kulusevski, was required to come off the bench against Tamworth last weekend in the FA Cup, but he slotted home with a super strike in extra time.
Apart from his undeniable strength on the ball, Kulusevski has been in fabulous form, netting six times in his past 10 outings in all competitions.
He is likely to carry a significant threat, and rather than plump on Kulusevski to score anytime, I’m drawn to the player shots on target line. The Swede is available at an inviting 15/2 at Paddy Power to have two or more shots on target during the 90 minutes if you fancy.
