Hobart Hurricanes v Melbourne Renegades Cricket Betting Tips
Hobart Hurricanes v Melbourne Renegades Preview
This is a repeat of the Hobart Hurricanes’ first game of the competition last month. They were bowled out for 74 in a heavy defeat at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium but have been superb since thanks to five wins from their last six games.
A win here against a hit-and-miss Renegades will see them claim top spot in the table at the start of the final week of group action. They are already assured of a top-four finish for Finals qualification.
This is Hobart’s first of three remaining games. Melbourne Renegades, meanwhile, have two to play and need a miracle to secure a top-four berth for knockout cricket.
I tipped the Renegades for the title before a ball was bowled, but they just haven’t made the most of their talent available.
Following that early failure against the Renegades, the Hurricanes have been particularly dominant with the bat. Opener Mitch Owen has impressed, with his 202 runs including a century, while Tim David has whacked 14 sixes in his haul of 167 runs.
Experienced seamer Kane Richardson went down with a hamstring injury for the Renegades in yesterday’s Melbourne derby defeat against the Stars, and all signs point to a victory for the Hurricanes here.
Rather than take the 3/4 on offer for a straight Hobart win, let’s go for bet365’s 1/1 bet builder double on Hobart to win and there to be a fifty scored in the match. Generally speaking, this is a high-scoring, postage stamp of a venue. So the latter shouldn’t be a problem.
Time for Jake to wake up
This bet isn’t form driven. This is just a feeling that it’s time for Jake Fraser-McGurk, the much talked about blaster, to post a score for the Melbourne Renegades.
The 12-time Aussie international, the next big thing less than 12 months ago, has struggled for form of late. He’s only topped 25 once so far in this competition - eight innings - and has missed out on national selection for the upcoming Champions Trophy.
I just think the 22-year-old is due a score. He started the competition opening and is now batting at three. There was the briefest of glimpses of his capability in scoring 19 in the defeat against the Melbourne Stars, and he may benefit from a good pitch with small boundaries at the fantastically named Ninja Stadium!
He’s 6/5 with betway to score 25 runs or more in this fixture.
A second bet with betway, 13/5 on there to be one or more stumpings in the match (labelled as over 0.5 stumpings).
With quality spin from the likes of Adam Zampa and Peter Hatzoglou in this fixture, plus with runs expected and batters going hard, I think this offers decent value - even if stumpings have been few and far between in this competition of late.
I really like Hobart captain Nathan Ellis as a cricketer. He’s such a wily customer. His best performance of this competition came early on in defeat against the Renegades at Geelong when he claimed 2-12 and added 35 with the bat down the order in a heavy defeat.
I’m backing him to shine again in a victory, this time, and he’s 7/2 with PaddyPower to be his side’s top bowler in the match.
And to complete a hat-trick of betway punts, they’re offering 9/1 on any player to score a century in the match. There’s more than enough batting talent on show in this fixture, at a venue which produces runs, to give this selection a definite chance.
Of the four centuries so far in the competition, Hobart’s Mitch Owen has one of them.
