Celtic and Bayern Munich collide in what could be a mouthwatering Champions League knockout phase play-off game on Wednesday evening.
To a certain extent, few would have expected to see Bayern in this position given their European credentials, but they lost their way a bit in the league phase, slipping to three defeats.
Nevertheless, Bayern, who have a commanding eight-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga, warmed up for this game with a comfortable 3-0 win over Werder Bremen at the weekend.
Celtic have also barely put a foot wrong in the Scottish Premiership, and they remain on track to complete a domestic treble again after thrashing Raith Rovers 5-0 in the Scottish FA Cup Fifth Round.
It is bound to be a febrile atmosphere at Celtic Park, and these are the sorts of nights the fans live for.
But how will the first leg pan out? As is customary, I’ve leafed through the betting markets and sourced a couple of tips to support my Celtic v Bayern Munich predictions.
Bayern Munich to hold advantage after pulsating clash
It would not be an exaggeration to suggest that Celtic have stepped things up in the Champions League this term, especially after that bruising 7-1 defeat away to Borussia Dortmund.
Indeed, there could have been serious scar tissue from that mauling, and apart from a 4-2 defeat away to Aston Villa, Celtic have handled their other assignments well.
Daizen Maeda has been instrumental for Celtic this term, and he has struck six times in his past three outings. However, his dismissal against Young Boys means the Hoops will be bereft of the Japanese forward for this tie, representing a significant blow.
Bayern, on the other hand, are deluged with attacking talent, and with the likes of Harry Kane and Jamal Musiala pulling the strings, this will be a true litmus test for Celtic.
Worryingly for Celtic, they have yet to beat Bayern on four previous occasions in European competition (D1 L3). They have also won just one of their past 12 matches against German opposition (D3 L8).
Bayern will want to flex their muscles, but perhaps they may be forced to work hard for the win. Bayern might not mind playing the first leg in Glasgow given their formidable record at the Allianz Arena.
Although Kane gets a lot of the plaudits, Musiala’s work shouldn’t go unnoticed.

I’ve always been impressed by Musiala whenever he has played, and he could give Celtic a torrid time.
