Chelsea v West Ham Match Preview
Chelsea and West Ham will face off on Monday evening at Stamford Bridge in what could be a feisty London Derby in the Premier League.
There isn’t much love lost between these two sides, and there is the Graham Potter factor. I’m wondering what kind of reception the former Blues boss will receive.
West Ham certainly need a pick-me-up as they have won only once in their past five league matches, while Chelsea will be aiming to bounce back after a dismal 3-1 defeat away to Manchester City.
Chelsea’s form in 2025 is certainly something left to be desired, and they have slipped to sixth in the table. A victory, of course, could propel them back into the top four depending on how other results pan out over the weekend.
Blues boss Enzo Maresca has plenty to think about, including whether to drop Robert Sanchez after his blunder against City.
But what should you expect from this showdown? I’ve traversed across the bookies and pinpointed a couple of tips for my Chelsea v West Ham predictions.
Potter unable to cast a spell on Chelsea
The appointment of Potter for West Ham hasn’t had the effect the club would have hoped.
His opening game in charge of Hammers was positive with a thrilling 3-2 win over Fulham last month, but they have dipped since then.
One notable point is that West Ham are slow starters, conceding nine goals in the opening 10 minutes of league games this term. That is something that needs to be addressed.
Another issue that doesn’t bode well is that they have won just one of their last 18 league away games against Chelsea (D4, L13).
Chelsea, as mentioned, haven’t got off to a flyer this year, but perhaps a decent result may transform their fortunes.
The Blues need to learn to take games by the scruff of the neck and hang in there during tougher periods.
Anyway, for the first of my Chelsea West Ham predictions, I’m going for a home win & BTTS that is trading at a tempting price of 6/4 with Betfred.
Cole Palmer to wreak havoc
Where would Chelsea be without Cole Palmer? He has been simply sensational.
So far this term we have seen his trademark ‘cold’ pose 14 times, and he’s joint-fourth in the goalscoring charts, five behind Liverpool’s Mo Salah.
When you factor in the six assists that Palmer has contributed, 20 goal involvements is a fabulous return.
Although he hasn’t found the target in his past two league outings, Palmer is never far away from the action.
To wrap up my Chelsea West Ham predictions, I’ve gone for a match special with a slight twist. Yes, I fancy Palmer to score a brace, priced at 9/2 with bet365.
