Club Brugge v Aston Villa Match Preview
A maiden Champions League voyage has already defied expectations as Villa sit on top of the league table, chalking up maximum points from their first three games.
For Unai Emery, he will be in desperate need of a pick-me-up after Villa were thrashed 4-1 by Tottenham last weekend in the Premier League.
Club Brugge, on the other hand, are currently in the elimination places (26th), and they won’t want to roll out the red carpet for the visitors.
But can Emery’s men continue to hit perfection levels in Europe’s elite competition?
To guide you through, I have provided a full match preview and shared some Aston Villa predictions for you to pore over.
Aston Villa to continue to make strides
Villa, as mentioned, have been impressive in the Champions League this term.
Emery’s charges have now only won their opening three games, but they have kept three clean sheets in each of them. Only three teams in the competition’s history (AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, and Juventus) have won their first four games in a row, but they were unable to keep clean sheets.
The manner in which Villa lost to Tottenham will have disappointed them, but they have a chance to put things right.
This will be their first encounter against Club Brugge, and Villa have only won one of their four clashes with Belgian sides in UEFA club competitions.
To kick off my Aston Villa predictions, I’m going with Villa to clinch victory & BTTS, a price that is available at an attractive-looking 29/10 with BetVictor.
Morgan Rogers to lay foundations for victory
There were few positives to take away from the defeat to Tottenham, however, Morgan Rogers was a rare bright spot for Villa.
The midfielder, who is 22, is always buzzing around, and he looks comfortable on the ball. Moreover, he has shown a sharp eye in front of goal, netting twice in his past four outings for Villa in all competitions.
He’s yet to get off the mark in the Champions League, but he could see a chance or two fall his way against Club Brugge, who are more limited opposition.
Rather than go for the player and multi-scorer method i.e. to score two or more goals during the 90 minutes, I’m going for a single scorer type of pick.
I think Rogers will get Villa off to a quick start and pave the way for victory. I believe there is value in the 7/1 odds assigned by bet365 for Rogers to break the deadlock.
