India v England Preview
The Champions Trophy is just around the corner, so this leg of England’s white ball tour of India holds much more significance than the T20 series which just finished.
England lost that one 4-1, and it doesn’t get any easier as India welcome back the likes of captain Sharma, Gill, Jaiswal, Kohli, Pant, Jadeja, Kuldeep and, for the final match, Bumrah.
It’s amazing to think that they can’t find a place for spinner Varun Chakravarthy or batter Abhishek Sharma, who starred with wickets and runs in the T20s.
Joe Root is back for England, but otherwise it’s as you were from the last few weeks.
Such is the gap between the two sides, I expect India to win this series 3-0 correct score, which is available at 9/5 with bet365. I’d much prefer that than the 3/10 on offer for them to win the series outright.
England just haven’t shown enough for me to be confident they can threaten India, never mind beat them.
Rooooooooot
As much as the modern England way is to go at things like a bull in a china shop with the bat, there has to be room for Joe Root in their 50-over team.
He can hold things together in the middle order and, especially in the sub-continent, hold things together against spin.
I would be taking Betfair’s 13/8 on Root to score a fifty in this opening fixture of the series.
A William Hill #YourOdds bet has caught my eye. They’re offering 23/10 on Shubman Gill and Harry Brook to hit at least one six apiece in this opener.
Both players have more than enough in the tank to achieve that feat.
Gill has hit 52 sixes in 47 career ODI appearances, and Brook has hit 26 in 20.
Paddy Power have Gill at 16/5 to be India’s top batter in the match. He hasn’t had an amazing time of things in an India shirt, across the formats.
But he has scored a confidence boosting first-class century for Punjab in the last 10 days. The opener oozes class, and I would be siding with him in Nagpur.
And to finish this ODI betting tips preview, I will return to the firm where I started, bet365.
I have combined a 17/2 bet builder, which will provide us interest throughout the contest.
It’s a six-fold shot on both Gill and Root to score at least 10 runs, for Kuldeep Yadav and Brydon Carse to take a wicket apiece, for India to hit the most sixes in the match and for England to have at least one batter run out.
