Ipswich v Manchester United Match Preview
In all the noise that has been surrounding the Premier League over the past couple of weeks, a lot of it has been positioned in the direction of Manchester and because of that, Ipswich’s first win of the season may have gone slightly under the radar.
Not many pundits or punters would have expected Ipswich to get the better of Tottenham in North London but that is precisely what the Tractor Boys managed and with goals from Sammie Szmodics and Liam Delap being registered before half-time, the shock was very much on.
A shock that stayed on at the final whistle and with Kieran McKenna’s men holding out against a late deluge of Tottenham pressure, their reward was not only a first maximum of the campaign but also one that sees them outside the relegation zone before this weekend gets underway.
Victory that many felt was coming but not necessarily that weekend and with the international break getting in their way, manager McKenna will hope the break does not do too much in terms of halting any positive momentum.
Not only that, but the Portman Road outfit have to now prepare to welcome Manchester United through their doors and the reason why so much noise has surrounded the Theatre of Dreams in the past couple of weeks.
That reason is the announcement and then the arrival of Ruben Amorim as manager of the Red Devils and with one his final acts as Sporting boss being the demolition of new local rivals Manchester City in the Champions League, he has already endeared himself to his new fanbase.
Now though, he must oversee victories as manager of Manchester United and with interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy leaving the club in as strong a position as they have been all season, the former Portuguese international will now have to hit the ground running.
Especially as his new charges currently find themselves lying 13th in the table and although on the surface that does not make for very good reading, they are still only four points off the Champions League pace.
Such has been the lack of consistency for any team that is not Liverpool, it only needs two or three successive league wins to be stitched together to change a team’s fortunes and therefore, the transformation for United under Amorim could be a quickfire one.
But now it is time for the first of my two tips and although Ipswich would love to ruin Amorim’s welcome party, I think the away win and both teams finding the net on Sunday is a good starting point. If you also like the sound of this, you can join me in backing it at odds of 41/20 with Midnite.
In addition to this, I will also opt for a correct score tip and although United’s attack and defence have equilibrium with 12 goals at either end, I think they will be able to outscore their opponents by the single goal. Therefore, I am also backing the 2-1 away win at odds of 8/1 with bet365.
