Leicester v Nottingham Forest Match Preview
Of the three promoted teams that came up from the EFL Championship last season, Leicester are currently making the smoothest transition to life in the Premier League. They start this weekend’s round of top tier fixtures; they start the weekend lying 14th in the table.
They find themselves on that rung of the league ladder after losing just one of their last five and more importantly, having won each of their last two outings. The first being a home win over Bournemouth before the break, the second being an away win at Southampton last Saturday.
Victory that looked highly unlikely when the Saints marched into a two-goal lead but one that looked less outside the realm of possibility by the time Southampton’s Ryan Fraser was sent off for a blatant pull of Jamie Vardy’s shirt in the box.
With Vardy slotting home from 12 yards, there was still plenty of time for the Foxes to hunt a winner and they needed every second of that time to do so. Jordan Ayew being given the freedom of St Mary’s in the dying seconds to kill off any hopes of Southampton holding out.
Victory that highlights the starts that the two respective promoted sides have had and although Leicester still have work to do, they are far from a club in crisis as they acclimatise to life back in the Premier League.
Friday night sees them play host to Nottingham Forest at the King Power Stadium and with Steve Copper making an indirect switch across the East Midlands, going up against his former employers adds a rather neat subplot to proceedings.
Especially as Forest make the short trip to Leicester while arguably considered the surprise act of the season so far and with just one defeat to their name, there was no real surprise when they got the better of Crystal Palace on Monday.
A game that saw Chris Wood’s strike from distance put considerable distance between Forest and the bottom three and the more points that Nuno Espirito Santo’s men can put on the board in the first half of the season, the easier the second half of the campaign will be.
While the more points they can put on the board before Christmas, the more the ambition of the club changes and if they are to be the surprise act of the season, that surprise could even culminate with European football being returned to the City Ground next year.
But now it is time for the first of my two tips and with Forest’s Wood and the team as a whole being a rather hot streak it makes sense to fuse the two elements together. A bet builder of the New Zealand international to score and the visitors to earn at least a point can be found at odds of 11/3 with Unibet.
In addition to this, I think Leicester may have to be the comeback kings again on Friday albeit to a lesser degree. With the pre-match odds being as they are, the draw looks favourable and with that mind, a half-time Forest win followed by a share of the points is currently priced at 14/1 with bet365.
